I'm still thinking about trading my 05 Silverado 1500HD in for a Tacoma and I looked at a 2008 over the weekend and sat in the back seat to see how much room there was between mine and that one. I've read that the 1st gen Tacoma's are smaller than the 2nd gens. I've looked at a 2001 Double Cab online I just have to find the time to go look at it in person. Are the back seats comfortable to ride in and legs not be against the front seat? I'm about 5'7 and my wife and my mom are around 5'5"-5'6". They will be the main ones riding in the back besides the car seat for our 9 month old.

if you have a car seat, the back seat is tight for adults...
