2000 Tacoma 3.4L 4x4 front diff fill plug

    I finally changed my rear, transfer case and front differential for the first time ever since I bought it. It was way over due. I put 75w-90 full synthetic in all. My question is about the front differential. There isn't a fill plug. Does anybody know about this? I have concluded that it doesn't have one because it uses the transmision fill plug right between the front diff and the transfer case. Everyone's opinion and expertise are welcome. Thanks:confused:

    there is a separate fill plug for the front diff. it's towards the top and front of the diff. you need a 10mm allen socket to get it loose, if I remember correctly.

    it should take just over 1 quart of gear oil.

    It should have it's own fill plug. Should be an Allen key fill plug on the front facing side of the diff.

    Yes, the drain plug was alen wrench plug. I felt all around the front diff. There was not one identical like that anywhere like the others that had one above. I'm still scratching my head? hmmm wonder where i overlooked.

    Yes, I also do have one qt left over. Not good.

    I scratch my head no longer. I found that fill plug guys!! Added that 1 qt after midnight. Just in time for my 4 hrs drive tmorrow. Again thanks for the reminder guys.:)

    881 Front coils, Bilstien 5100's all the way front set to "0" Icon Dynamic's mini leafs in rear, stock tires.
    I always make sure I can find and remove the fill plug before draining, had to use a cheater bar on the allen wrench on my front diff it was tight!

    x2! good tip here. always locate and remove the fill plug first, just in case you aren't able to get the drain bolt out, you haven't drained anything so you can pop the fill plug back in and drive to get more supplies or tackle it another day.

    I had to cut a slot in the fill plug and hit it with the air chisel on my wife's old 4Runner to get it out! I too always loosen the fill plug first. Which reminds me I need to do the diffs and t-case in my 96 before winter. Maybe a tranny filter and refill too.

    It was tricky from all socket plug to allen wrench plug for the front diff. The drain plug was visible. The fill plug was not. There was a lot of oil and dirt. I couldn't feel it because it was somewhat flush to the front diff lol. Kind of like hidden, but anyways the guys said it was there. I went back in the garage and under the truck after 12 am. Took the skid plate off. Shine my brooder light. Look and feel again. Bam! There was a small shiny spot. Put in the the allen wrench with a good tap. Luckily the plugs didn't give me a hard time. Yeehah!
