I was wondering if it was possible to swap the front grill of a 1998 Tacoma with a 2001 tacoma.

it would be a lot more involved than just replacing the grill. the headlights are a different shape, trim under the headlights too, corner lights, and the hoods are contoured differently.

Exactly, totally agree with what MTgirl stated. It's not a direct swap... hood, headlights, headlight filler and maybe even both fenders are different too. Not quite an easy adventure.

notice that the 01-04 grill wraps around the headlights and has a pronounced bump in the top center portion. 98-00 front ends don't look like that

Would need new fenders and hood, corner lights, head lights, grill. But other then that is just bolts and clips. Would go right on.

How hard would it be to swap my grill (1998) with an earlier one? would i still have to replace the front fenders and hood?

You'd have to swap out the core support for the headlights. 95.5-97' tacoma's use a sealed 5x7 headlight, rather than the contoured style the 98-00's have.
    And the bumper is different.

You do not need a new hood, fenders or core support. You will have to drill one hole in your current core support for each headlight to mount.

Other than that all you need is a 95-97 grille and 95-97 headlight assemblies.

Here's a thread that has a boatload of information in it (links within the links).

You can also find Virginabound on here. He did this swap.

so, recently i have been getting a groaning noise from my power steering pump... there are no leaks, the pump has been replaced before, new vacum lines, and fluid... we took the reservoir off and cleaned it, and also took the filter out because it was stopped up, and damaged... any ideas of how to fix the noise... i can also feel it through the steering wheel.

What type of PS fluid are you using?

I don't think Prestone makes Power Steering fluid .

The reason for the query, is that Toyotas use ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid) in the PS (Power Steering), not power steering fluid. Some don't realize this and use PS fluid instead. This would cause problems.

so i have this chrome roll bar on my truck, and I've been looking at it lately and I've noticed some spots where the chrome seems to be coming off (something like that). So im looking for some protectant so this will stop, any suggestions?... also looking for a set of exhaust headers, any suggestions? (1998 2.7L)

98-00 have longer front frame horns...
then both 95-97 and later 01-04 tacoma models.

'bout 3" length difference I believe.

Tho' that may not affect the grill assembly swap...
the earlier and later model tupperware wouldn't likely fit 98-00 models.
And would likely be a mismatched booger to the other grill designs.

Early and later 1st gen. Tacoma are more closely related (frame horn length)
and swapping between those may be easier.

I would think to believe this frame change would have some bearing
with swapping to the earlier or later model 1st gen grill.
And likely require shortening the frame horns for a full swap.

    just sayin'

    I like my 00 grill...
easy to install... easy to remove.

the other models just complicate matters IMO

Click on STLHarry's build page. He put a 95-97 grille on his 01-04. It's intensive but you do not need to swap core supports, etc.
