2 LO MOD

Isn't it called the Blue Wire Mod?

 

Ok, bringing this one back for the dummies(me). I have the manual shifter, no switch, on my '04 Tacoma 2.7 5spd. What exactly do I need to do to have 2wd low? I have read a few threads, but they are a little vague- to me.

 

Unfortunately if you have the manual J shifter for 4wd then you can't do this mod.

Should have been more specific, I meant this mod where you simply unplug the wire on the transmission.

I did the two low mod on my 02 taco yes unplug the blue plug as described, although when you want four low you have to move shifter to low range then push the button on the shifter. It takes all of one minute to crawl under your truck and unplug the wiring. After it's unplugged shrink tube the connections to keep water out. The two lo mod is great for backing a trailer into a tight spot saves on your clutch and your truck isn't binding up if your turning tight.

 

This doesn't work for the J-Shift transfer case. Those of us with the J-shift case have a little more involved process.

 

There is a mod for the two lo mod for the j-shift but you have to wire in a switch to the four wheel drive control box on the passenger side kick panel just a FYI!!,

 

Don't forget that if you have the j-shift and manual hubs 2WD LO is very easy, just don't lock the front hubs.
