Hi everyone, like the title says I'm considering putting some HIDs in my 02 tacoma. I have done some research and looked into ddmtuning, TRS, and slimcubbys but with all the different types of projectors, wiring kits, and bulbs I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around it all. From what I have gathered I am most likely going to need to do a retrofit with projectors for the HIDS. And as far as the brightness I am most likely going to use 5000k in 35w. Really looking for any advice and recomendations anyone can give me. Thanks!

Are you looking for a plug and play kit or are you trying for a complete retrofit?

More than likely a plug in play kit. Open to all options though.

Ive done the pnp kit before. Ran it for a short period, then switched back to halogens. The light pattern sucks, there were hot spots, and I had to aim them low as not blind other drivers. Not worth it in my opinion. The only proper way to do it would be to do a complete retrofit. Pricier and more time consuming, but well worth it.

Ditto. Plug & play is illegal and dangerous.
Projector retrofits are technically illegal, but they are safe if aimed properly and will fly under the radar.

Brightness is not the "k" rating... directly. That is the color temperature. Higher temperature is a more "blue" light, which does impact the amount of light that our eyes perceive, since we can't see into the infrared or ultraviolet spectrum.
5000k is decent, I would not go any higher.
Factory HID projectors are 4300k and are a very nice white.
6000k starts to get a noticeable blue tint to it, and anything above that is getting into "Riceboy" area.

35w is what OEM projectors are.
55w is brighter, but be aware that the Mini-H1 and D2S housings can not handle the heat. Using a 55w system requires moving up to the FRX system, which is FAR more involved.
The D2S is a pretty simple retrofit into aftermarket housings.
