    Yes, I searched.

Didn't see any recommendations or much discussion about hitches.

I will probably never tow but I want a hitch for a rear recovery point.

    Class II or III?

Who makes the best one for clearance?

Who makes the best one for "bang for the buck?"

I saw Curt, Drawtite and another brand on autoanything but they were $200.

    Any recommendations? Thanks.

If you're gonna do it, get one that's rated to the vehicle towing limit. Then when you sell the truck and the next guy goes to pull a 5,000 lb load, the hitch doesn't rip apart because he didn't know the hitch wasn't capable.

They are all relatively the same for ground clearance. Hidden Hitch makes pretty sleek ones. Curt are beefy. Uhaul hitches are alright.

I have done all the hi-pro mods for a life time, since I got this truck at a great price, I will be happy with showroom new.
well in the past, I have towed and delivered more tag-a-long equipment trailers than I want to talk about, so here it goes.
Curt and Drawtite are very good brands.
I have checked for my truck, (for the fun of it) on of all places Amazon.
just punch in your truck in the auto section and look at towing. one advantage is that in most cases you can get FREE shipping. and get a class 3 or 4.
also check out Redneck trailer supplies. nationwide company, good prices, we used to buy from them. they have a great online catalog.
all kits come with grade 5 bolts and nuts, which are good and will last, but we always put them back, and replaced them with grade 8.
and if you really want it to stay on get someone to spot weld the bolts after you have everything mounted.
and if you are towing get a good heavy shank ball, Curt makes really good ones.
and even if you don't tow, it give you a little extra protection if someone rear ends you.

also Redneck has their own "house brand" which used to be made by Drawtite, which is what we used.

This is my wife's old 98 circa 2001 towing my FJ40 home from PA to NH. That was a cheap Uhaul hitch towing a combined weight of about 5100 pounds. And a bed full of parts. Just a touch overloaded.... Had to use low range to get it moving a couple times on hills. But that cheap hitch worked just fine.

    I'm mostly concerned about clearance.

Like I said, I doubt I will ever tow and if I do, I'm pretty sure the hitch will be fine.

Then put the money toward a hitched bumper.

Would like to keep the weight of the stock bumper. And I'm kind of unwilling to spend $200 on a hitch so I'm pretty sure a hitched bumper is not in my financial plans either.

    Sponsored by Mom and Dad
so for $50 and $50 in gas you have yourself a $100 hitch which is cheaper than the $200 you dont want to spend :D
