...hello...my ECU needs replacing...I know where it is and what it looks like..
Toyota says list price is $1,700..... They'll sell it to me $1,525......
I can OEM online $1,200........question..is it just a matter of un-plugging the connectors or is there more to it...such as programming....settings....specific tools req'd?....in other words is it a "do it myself"?...any info will be appreciated!..thank you...Mike

Toyota lists their ECU as programmable. Now if you buy it from the dealer, it may be pre-programmed (Toyota techs step in here) I would ask the seller if the ECU comes pre-programmed for your truck.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Replacing an ECU is easy and is pretty much plug and play only if you have the correct part number.

There are other options other than the stealership. Why do you need a new ECU ? They are a "hardy" part and rarely fail.

I'd also like to know what the part number is...
Refer to the number sequence under TOYOTA

For that year it's strictly plug and play. The part numbers must match though in order for a trouble free plug and play

I stand corrected on my information. Thanks for the info. I will make sure to remember this next time. I had thought anything post-96 were unprogrammed.

Hmm.. I have a 2002 Tacoma v6 Auto ECU that will be available soon. I did a 5 speed swap and will need to swap my Manual Transmission ECU in. 100k mines on the ECU if that matters. I'll get you a part number gonna try and swap it Thur or Sunday next week. PM a price if your interested.
