so i have a 2001 3.4 5 speed that i am looking to use 2 12v batteries to power my ARB compressor, 10000lb winch, led lights. ext
i have found how to regulate it back to 12v for the truck but now i need to charge them and was wondering if the stock alternator and or volt controller will charge 2 12v batteries in line?
    thanks for the help.

What are you using to regulate the 24v to the compressor and the 12v to the truck?

Two parallel 12 volt batteries are still 12 volts yes your alt will charge both.

yes, what the guy above said. wire them in parallel and you will have no issues. i might add a isolator between the two but thats about it.

Use an isolator to keep the starting and accessory batteries separate. The alternator can be overloaded by trying to charge both at once. This may not be the case for light use of the battery. Although, running down both batteries, then relying on the alternator to charge both, can cause problems. This would be true for winches, heavy use of the accessory battery, etc. The isolator prevents discharge of the starting battery via the accessory battery, and will only allow the accesory battery to charge after the starting battery is charged.

How would I get 24v for the accesories and 12v for the truck?

It is possible, just hook up the 2 batteries in SERIES, rather than parallel. But why have 24-volt accessories?

Keeping the OE alternator, IMO you would need a 24vdc batt or two 12vdc in series, isolated from the 12vdc distribution system, and some kind of step-up transformer so that the OE 12vdc system can charge the 24vdc batteries, and the batteries can take the brunt of the load when using the 24v loads.

Or you could have just 24vdc batteries and the alternator running to those with the step-up, and using a good solid state step-down for the 12vdc distribution system. Would have to be a hefty 24 to 12vdc regulator to handle engine starting. If going this latter route, IMO ditch the OE alternator and get a 24vdc one from the military/DRMO.

    Why do you want 24v?

In the OP's original post, it appears he was wondering how to charge two batteries with the stock alternator. That would be accomplished by connecting them in parallel: Positive to positive, negative to negative.
Does OP have 24v accessories? If so, a HD alternator would handle that fine. Ditch the isolator, connect the batteries to the alternator in parallel, and the accessories up in series. They do it in semi-trucks with 24v starters. No converters or 24v alternators required.

Do you have a wiring schematic for these connections? I don't think it's as easy as you're making it sound. When connecting batteries, you can either connect in series (pos to neg), or parallel (pos to pos, neg to neg), not both. Semi-trucks that utilized multiple 12V batteries for starting purposes also have isolating contacts that will allow the batteries to be connected in series to start. Once the truck is started, the contact(s) switch states to connect the batteries in parallel for charging, and feeding the 12V system throughout. If the contact(s) are not there, the connections will create a short circuit.

A quick google search came up with this. This device has the ability to provide 24V when starting is required. This is just an example of the switching required. If anyone else has installed OP's type of setup, I'm sure they found a better device.

I left that little detail out... Sorry, it's been a rough day. Thanks for picking up the slack.

The only problem with it is, can only use one circuit at a time.
