I have a leak near the transfer case or rear main. I may have to remove the rock guard to know for sure. I only have 60,00 miles on this 2004 tacoma. Would this be unusual for this year of truck to develop a leak. It leaked about two weeks ago and I discovered the oil filter had come lose. weird things happening.

How bad is the leak? a couple drops? just looks likes its leaking?
Leaks can happen at anytime my transfercase looks likes it has leaked (looks dry but dirty) mileage is about the same as yours also.

    Too few to list.
I suggest you use an engine degreaser and flush all the dirt out so you can better trace where the leak is coming from.
