Replacing fuel filter ?

    I have seen a pretty good drop in gas mileage and so I am going through my options and am wondering if replacing my fuel filter could help. I have 152k miles and I don't think it has ever been replaced

    It won't hurt to change it,but I think there is more to the gas mileage change than a fuel filter. First thing i would look at is tire pressure, then spark plugs, air filter

    Rear Leaf TSB, Bilstein 5100s, extra leaf added
    I am not certain it will help your gas mileage, but you are a little overdue in changing it out by about 100,000 miles. I suspect it needs a whole lot of fuel treatment as well. ONLY ONE BOTTLE per tank or you ruin your O2 sensors.

    dump some seafoam in, clog the piss out of the filter, and then change it.

    You will want a 14MM line wrench to do it. The chance of stripping the fuel-line nuts is extremely likely, so PB-Blaster, a couple taps with a hammer and a line wrench will help prevent it from shitting the bed on you.

    Also, if you have sprayed on undercoating, use a little gasoline to work as a solvent and dissolve some of it if its on the nuts/threads

    I've always used vice grips on brake lines.. Need to get some actual brake line wrenches soon lol

    Plugs and wires were just changed and I have already run a can of seafoam through it so I will go ahead and change he filter. Air filter is fine as well. Any other things to check? Tire pressure is good to go. I am running 32lbs on all four dura tracs

    They're like 8 bucks at autozone, and make a world of difference when dealing with something that has a high propensity to gall and strip

    I run 40 or more in my duratracs.....they wear way better on my truck above 40 I have found out.....not sure if that will help milage much

    Do you guys have 'winter gas'?? I know my DC drops about 2-3mpg over the winter due to cold weather and gas, but Im in NY.

    If your fuel filter was clogged/bad, you would see more of a lean problem than rich.

    Also, our fuel filters are 'lifetime' filters, even tho not many would say to never change it. I changed mine when I got truck, wont hurt anything.

    Even on a c rated tire? Seems hight but I may try it out and see what I think. I have noticed my tires being extremely loud also, so maybe I am running them low at 32psi

    I'm going to run 32 on my 31 Duratracs. They're at 28 now

    I agree chalk test or just go drive in some dirt and back on road

    grease your zerk fittings on the drive shaft.

    change your diffs, transfer case, and tranny fluids (if you've not done it recently)

    Check carrier bearing for play

    i dont know, aside from intake and exhaust stuff, the simple mechanical stuff comes into play. friction.


    Oh, one thing people forgot to mention, test your O2 sensors. They may never have been changed before, and when they go, its generally a vicious cycle because they start to die. they tell the engine its running lean (cause its all clogged and shitty), the engine adjusts to add more fuel, and the o2 sensor progressively gets shittier and shittier until it throws a CEL.)
