YES, if it is an automatic and has a front drive-train (4WD).

My 2001 was a 4WD AUTO V-6 TRD extra cab... 16 MPG was typical.

My 2005 and 2010 were/are the bigger Tacomas and also double cabs, both still got/get about 16-17 mpg with the bigger 4.0 V-6... so they improved the truck by keeping the consumption the same as the smaller truck instead of getting less MPG with the bigger truck and bigger engine.

When I lived in Tucson, I got about 20mpg. Moved to Albuquerque and now average about 17mpg. Had the local dealership take a look at it and they said everything was fine.

This issue has been beat to death, Toyota really dropped the ball on these trucks when it comes to gas mileage. When people ask me about my Tacoma, I just say great little truck but terrible gas mileage and leave it at that.

Yea, could be better. I recently switched to 89 octane and im not sure of milage with it but the truck idles smoother, runs smoother and feels like a bit more power. A little more to pay but the way she runs is worth it to me.

It is REALLY subjective, based on where you drive and your driving habits.

Could be as low as 12 or as high as 25, based on these and a few other variables. We really beat this topic to death in a couple of other threads.

I get 21-22 on my commute to work every day, doing 65 MPH on the freeway. But I get 13 on a short trip to my house from the gym. I have a calibrated Ultragauge that is within 1% of the standard method of checking MPG's.

I have done all the hi-pro mods for a life time, since I got this truck at a great price, I will be happy with showroom new.
PolishandWax is right, there are a lot of factors to your mileage. the epa sticker on all cars is just dreamland. I have replaced everything on my truck over the summer, she has 186,000m miles and I get about 18 farting around in the city and 20-22 on the open road, depends on my mood and foot. It is a truck, not a tercel, and having driven alot of truck over the years its pretty good. One thing that surprised me my girlfriend has had 2 xterra, and those things are gas hogs....

If you do mostly around town driving in an area with winter blended gas that would be about right. If the truck is stock. If you have bigger tires you're doing pretty good. Mine's all stock and I was getting a hair over 20 (mostly highway) but now that it's colder and we have the crappier gas I'm seeing 18.5-19 in the same driving. About the best I ever saw out of my old 98 with a 4" lift and 33's was 17.

My calibration factor is 1.15 and my tank size setting is 18 gallons. I made the calibration setting over dozens of tanks and it is incredibly accurate.

Yesterday I got to the gas station and the Ultragauge said I had 10.6 gallons left. I filled up and it took 7.42 gallons. Can't get more accurate than that. I don't even check the MPG's using the odometer anymore because the Ultragauge has been spot on.

The Ultragauge said I got 19.2 on the last tank. I do 19-20 because I do more than just drive back and forth to work.

I fill up at the same station every week and usually the same pump which I read is important for accuracy when you are calibrating.
