I got it done its a complete flush and the refill. It total out the door $144.78, however I went back because the dumbass mechanic only refill 10 qtrs so I was missing at least 2. Truck is running great tho.

Something like that. I heard if it has high mileage and is hasn't been flush for a while is better just to drain and refill.

Just got a 99 tacoma with 156k. I am unsure of the maintenance history so I decided to just do a drain and fill. Used Valvoline maxlife dex/merc. I will be doing a drain and fill at each oil change for the first 4-5 just to slowly cycle in new fluid. A lot of sources say not to do a complete flush with higher miles if the ATF has not been regularly maintained.

Yep. I used to be a tech at a toyota dealership. Definitely not good to flush high mileage transmissions. Drain and refill only. I've seen many cars with high mileage getting flushed only to see them not able to reverse out of the bay.

Also, stay away from dex/mer compatible ATFs. I did the mistake of switching over to a shell dex/mer and immediately noticed my transmission shifting harsh.

Not sure if its comparable for your Auto or not....took it to the dealer and they did a drain and refill. It had been about 1.5 years/30k miles to my last fluid change...approaching 160K miles and no issues.

so what fluid did they put back in? I did a drain and refill on mine (100k) and refilled with toyota type IV because the service manual specifically states how other fluids are not recommended. It seems common that people refill with synthetic and have no problems though.

I was always told to use toyota trans fluid only. Also that they will last longer if you do. And to never do a full flush, lots of mechanics say that a full flush will push small metal particles into places it shouldn't and it shortens the life of your transmission.
