Rr lock diff on prerunner

    I have a 1998 tacoma prerunner 4 cyl with the trd off-road package that i use mostly for highway use, but i was wondering if it was supposed to have a locker because i cant find the switch

    I didn't think the real trd's came with the 4cyl??? How do you know its a TRD?

    What are some other ways to tell if it has the package. ill never need the package, just wanted to know if i had it

    I think their is a website where you can enter your vin and it will tell you exactly what it had when new. Never used it before only heard of it.

    Apparently there were a handful of them produced. I thought the same thing until someone physically showed me one.

    There are 4 cyl TRDs, but Im pretty sure only the V6 TRDs came with the rear diff locks. I test drove and 4 cyl DC TRD prerunner and it didnt have a diff lock but my V6 does. But Im not a doctor....so..

    This is essentially correct. The TRD "package" was available on trucks with the 2.7L, and it would come equipped with an e-locker if it had the 5-speed manual trans. However, if the same truck had an automatic trans, it would not have the e-locker even tho it was a TRD model.

    Yep back in 01 when my lease was running out on my 98 I looked at a 2.7 4x4 TRD extracab and it had the locker. I wound up selling the 98 and bought a 95.5 regular cab V6 instead. Another really rare one.
