I can't get my windshield wipers to stop. they started up one day after driving for a while with snow on the hood and now they don't stop. I think it must be a short somewhere that got wet when my engine heated up.

AHAHAHAHAHA! this happens to me, but i know my problem.
my wiper fluid pump was ripped out while wheeling one day. whenever i go through deep water the wires in the water complete the circuit and turn on the wipers.
out of fun i just tell everyone i have automatic wipers.
so check the bottom of your tank and look at all the wiring. check for sheared or exposed wires.

Thanks for the help, it was bare wires on the pump. When the underside of the truck gets wet it forms a connection.

Same here. This recently happened to my '03 recently and it was a broken wiring harness near the front passenger wheel well at the washer pump that was shorting to ground. Made the circuit believe the washer pump was running and therefore required the wipers to run to clean the windshield. Fixed the wiring, fixed the broken wires with some soldering and electrical tape and fixed the problem.
