Hey guys so last night I found a nice present that we didn't see when we bought the Tacoma. As you can see the rust on the frame is pretty bad.photo2_zps978487eb_cde0e718d648a1f7fcb39161e2b925b8d290e198.jpg
It's really sucky because the rest of the truck is immaculent. It has a clean title so the buyback should be good right? And isn't it 1.5 times the kbb excellent value? Thanks

Added extra awesomeness to its original awesomeness.
Wow, not sure, but I think that is covered in the recall.

That's worse than my 96 was after 16 new england winters. Mine was too old for the buyback as I just bought it a few months ago so I fixed it myself and rustproofed the crap out of it. But you should visit your local Toyota dealer and get the process going. Big check coming your way most likely.

    JCH,

I just dug out my re-frame paperwork and here is what it states...

    WY. was not one of the 1st states to jump on so;

Try putting your VIN in here www.toyota.com/ownersupdate All 17 digits..

If that gives you no answers 1-888-270-9371

Good luck and a word of ADVICE from an Old Man....The nicer you are to them the better the results...;)

My '02 tacoma has been re-framed; A good experience for all 4 of us; TOYOTA,myself,my dealer and my truck ...........

And with the good relationship I have with my dealer my '02 jumped to the top of the latest re-call for the spare tire carrier; Finished before the "Toyota letter" arrived...

    Keep us updated....

Went on that site, nothing about the buy back. Going to call Toyota tomorrow. We actually have the original recall notice so i'm hoping that helps the case.

Well apparently the guy originally lived in Virginia or somewhere around there. It had spent the last couple years in Colorado though so i'm not really sure how it go that bad. Weird part is is that it's just that part of the frame. The rest of it actually looks pretty good .

My "Notice" listed 2001-2004 BUT was also state specific...

Follow along the lines you have started with Toyota and once they determine the VIN and ownership "Chain" hopefully you can get results....

The "Magic 15 year window" is a grey area at best unless you have it in writing like those of us who actually had TOYOTA work done....

The dealer I buy my parts from has done dozens of frame swaps and they say the affected areas are totally random but around the rear spring hangers is the most common. Some do it on both sides and some only do it on one side. Mine was the passenger side. And it was just the inside rail about an inch up from the bottom. If you do get hosed on the buyback it's not a terrible fix if you can weld. Just rustproof the crap out of it afterwards as it starts from the inside and works out.

Reading lots frame issues pop up recently. Thing to know about the 15yrs extended warranty is that it only comes into play if you brought it in to toyota before a certain date to be inspected and undercoated. You had to be pro-active on this campaign. Check with Toyota to see if you qualify.

Cheers and hope this helps some.

I'm pretty sure the undercoating is for 01-04 models. But the previous owner said he had the frame inspected before so hopefully I'm good on that part.

Here in Ontario they were also undercoated the pre-2001's if they passed inspection to see if they could get them past the 15yrs, in most cases it didn't make a difference.

If yours was previously checked you should be good to go, cheers, DC

Well my dad called up Toyota and the general service manager didn't seem to know much about the subject. We did schedule an appointment for Friday though. He also called the Toyota through the number snoope said and they confirmed the 15 year availability. I also have scans of the recall sheets if anybody would like to see them. Thanks for the help so far everyone.
