Recently bought a '01 Taco, it has 145K on it but runs like a champ, i am looking to get some information on DIY engine maintenance.

Any information/advice on engine tune ups for 1st generation tacomas is most welcome!

    Thanks!

    Congrats!

Not much to do at all on these engines. Don't need to adjust valves like the old 22REs. I think you will find everything you need here:

The timing belt and h20 pump every 90k miles is the biggest maint. item. Other than that, air filter, clean the MAF sensor (right behind filter box), change plugs. Coolant change may be in order. And swap out all your diff/transfer oils, and grease the driveshafts (U-joints and double-cardans).

Im going thru the same thing pretty much. I just changed my F/R diffs and Tcase oil yesterday (75-90 gl5 synthetic) I have the amts if you want them. There easy as pie minus the front (drop skiplate and still hard to get at).

also put new plugs wires in and greased driveshaft u joints. had a filter but the one in it looked nearly new still.
