I'd go with the toyos. A friend of mine has them and they work great offroad, lots of traction. there good on the road aswell.

^that sucks. Theres a guy in my local group running the mt/r's, not sure if they are kevlar or not, but they have 10k on them and look brand spanking new. Decent in snow from what i've seen running with him but he said they dont stop very good in snowy/icy conditions

Ideally I want to go with some 38"ers, but they have to be chunky as fawk. Looks like I'm going to have to dig down into the wallet real deep.

Im running the 35" Baja Claw. I love them but the only downfall to them to me is they are directional. I am considering the BFG Baja radial or the MT MTZ.

Also check out the place down bear valley near Kmart. where the SASed jeep always crawled up on that rock in the front of the store. I cant remember the name but they gave me a price of 300-310 ish for the baja claws 35" which is about 20 ea cheaper than toys for trucks.

O.P. READ!!!

I just thought my advice may have meaning in this area since i work at Les Schwabs and one of your main tire choices is the Toyo M/T (Our premium tire).

1. I would not recommend the M/T for a light truck like a tacoma. These are 10 ply tires (Load Range E) with extra casings, probably one of the heaviest if not heaviest tire for size out there. I was looking at 35x12.5r17, in the Mickey Thompson baja claw tire they weighed 67 lbs each, iin the Toyo M/T they are 87 lbs each. As you can see a HUGE difference when it comes to ratio.

2. From customer and co-worker experience, they are no bueno for mud. Apparently once the lugs get filled with mud, there's no getting it out (Self Cleaning) and the tires become slicks. Customers have also complained that they are really bad in snow and on ice. I've had 3 co-workers run them on lifted trucks and ended up putting on different tires before theirs went bad due to the lack of off road traction. Some customers have said they only get 20k out of theirs, others say up to 60K. The only plus side is apparently they are good in sand and on wet pavement. These are reviews by hundreds of users. IMO the M/T is more of a "Looker", it looks aggressive and thats why all the Lifted Truck Yeehas want them. (Plus they can buy them on CREDIT as LEs Schwabs). Also i have to mention they are BULLET Proof when it comes to getting puncture wounds, it's rare i fix a flat on an M/T tire. The Casings are so bloody thick, many times people will see a nail and think they have a flat, when in fact the object never went through the casings. So there's a positive for ya!!!

3. Coincidentally, a co-worker just traded his 33x12.5r15 Toyo M/Ts for a set of those General Grabbers with red letters. He says they ride good and they are great in the sand, but they have horrible wet pavement traction. (Not sure if your in an area that matters).

4. M/Ts are over prices (lol)

Now if you want my opinion on what tire/tires i would recommend for you. Let me know.

I listed these in order.

1. Goodyear Duratracs, light, durable, great traction off road and wet pavement. The price also seems affordable. The lugs are closer together giving it a better on road ride kinda like a simple A/T tire vs an M/T.



2. I currently run the Dick Cepek Mountain Cat Extreme Terrain tires, they are a lighter tire as well, about medium price. I'm on my 2nd set now. They are invincible in the snow!! Great mud and wet pavement traction. I would say they're about medium price.


3. KM2, again a lighter tire, supreme traction for rock and i've heard it's also good in mud. They are a tad noise on road but good traction. I believe they are somewhat spendy, at least compared to the duratracs.


4. The Goodyear Wrangler MTR may also be a good choice, i don't know anyone who has ran them or much about them so i'm not gonna make shit up.

What ever u decide to buy, make sure its geared for what u like to do. If ur a desert guy, Generals r by far the best for that. They r a heavy tire. But I know guys who run every tire mentioned. They all love the tire they bought.

Tire pressure and learning to drive for the conditions put in front of you will allow u to get the most from the tire u choose.

I run a 35' pro comp xterrain. They r a great tire for the price I pay for them. The sidewall bulges fine and gives a nice foot print in the hard pack and sand. I drive the street more than the desert. So having a 40,000 mile warranty no question asked policy was a plus.

I air down to 16psi in the dirt and run 25 in the city.

If ur a snow and mud guy the general is not the tire for that condition. U want a mud terrain tire. In which case the other tires r perfect for that because of the larger lugs.

So figure out what u will be doing most of and buy a tire for that.
