    Yes, I did a search.

Most of the posts about issue with a check engine light after a deck plate mod pertain to either the sealant and the fumes or the MAF and disconnecting the negative terminal on the battery to fix it.

    Here is my question.

I did the deck plate mod about 550 miles ago without any issue on my 2004 TRD SR5 Double Cab 4x4 with 133K miles. I let it dry for at least overnight and all was good. I did pull the fuse but no issues. Today my check engine light came on. My concern is that I have a friend who has an 2002 who installed a cold air intake and after about the same number of miles his check engine light came on. He ended up having to replace the catalytic converter.

After all this time is the check engine light unrelated or is it due to the deck plate mod?

Total coincidence with my friends truck or what?

    Recommendations?

    Thanks

I was thinking if it were possible, could you revert back to the stock airbox/intake temporarily to see if the light clears? Not sure if the deckplate mod closes off the stock hole where it attaches to the connecting pipe to the fender syphon.

Code is P0031. The guy at Auto Zone said it was a heated O2 sensor. I screwed back on the deck plate and had him reset the code. I've only drive 20 miles or so but the code has not come back.

Amazon has multiple ones. Search "deck plate". From what I've read, the 4cyl can only fit up to a 4" plate, but the 3.4 can fit a 6".

Looks like front O2 sensor. Buy one from these guys www.partznet.com and be patient getting the harness undone. On my truck, you have to take the shift boots completely out.

That's what happens when people mess with stock things. If Toyota wanted you to have a deck plate it would of added one.

I was never a fan of it.

Instead of the deck plate mod, I just used a dremmel and cut out 4 holes in my air box, this was years ago and I have never had a problem yet. I also have a K&N drop in filter.

Coincidence: I added a CAI to mine and ended up getting a clogged cat about 3,000 miles later..

Question: Is the 'yota ECU programmed to make the mixture more rich with the addition of more air.. hence the clogged cat?

Tangent: Is it just me or is the deckplate necessary? If you wanted more air but wanted to keep the stock box why don't people leave the drop in air filter opening left open?

Thought: (ha! who am I kidding, probably makes too much sense and, we enthusiasts, just want an excuse to perform a 'mod' LOL)

The lid on the box kind of keeps the filter secure. Don't want that flopping around.
