I am doing Blackdawg's free blinker mod which will leave the light housings in my lower valence open. I have a second set of blinker housings so the ones I used to mod my blinkers will be the extra set so I'll have the ones left over on the bottom valence empty. I want to put some fog lights into the old blinker housings but what is the best way to do it? I have some white led 3157 lights and sockets for them but not sure if I should put those in if they'll be very bright or if there is a set of HIDs that would be possible to throw in ? I was told that HIDS will melt the blinker housing is that true?
any help is appreciated. and if you have done any blinker/fog mod to your truck I'd be glad to set it!! post pictures!

I've got 35w 5000k in my headlights and in my fogs. you just have to secure the bulb in the fog housings so that it wont touch the sides of the housings.
Let me know if you need anything else.

looks sweet! Got a few questions,

Did you just get a $50 or so HID kit from ebay and drop them into both fogs and headlights?

Or did you retrofit/ do any of that expensive shit..

For the fogs how did you get the HID to stay in the housing?

Could you post real close up pictures of your headlights, and then some of the back of the fogs how they're wired/hooked up?

I got both of my HID kits from ebay and have had no problems in the 2 years I've used them in my truck or old vehicles. $64 for good working HIDs for headlights and fogs isn't a bad deal

    EDIT:

Fogs are H4 bulbs I think. I just screwed two little screws at the 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock position and kinda just rigged it so the wire wrapped around the back of the bulb. Hard to explain, you can see what I'm talking about in the pic.

Yeah Ebay is where i'm looking too. I just saw a lot of people who said that you can't use HIDs because you need to "retrofit" them and those kits are like 250 bucks i'm not spending that...and they also said if you just drop in HIDs in the headlights that they will blind oncoming traffic and scatter light everywhere.

    1. our headlight bulb size is 9003 correct?

    2. I have no idea what the socket is called for the fog housing so i'm not sure if there are fog lights that are actually made to fit inside that housing. I think for my fogs i want 3k lights though instead of 5 so that my headlights and fogs don't match. thanks for taking pictures i can't wait to see them

    Pics are above ^^^

    1. Correct, bulb size is 9003.
-My stock headlight housings put out a pretty good beam of light without the "scatter." Although I have seen a few trucks with the "scatter" of light you are talking about. As for blinding traffic, I angled my lights down a little and I've never been flashed for my brights being on or anything.

    2. There isn't really a socket for the fogs that I can think of. I just used an H4 bulb and made it fit haha

So for your headlights you bought 9003 HID 5k lights and for the fogs you bought 9006 HID 5k lights? since our type of truck is made for the hi and low beam lights to be in the same bulb did you get HIDs that were high and low? could you send me the links to the specific ones you bought on ebay? And thanks a lot for that picture of your bulbs on the fogs that makes a lot of sense looks like it works great too +1 !

    Click>>>> eBay

I just got them for my low beams. I have no need for my highs with HID fogs and headlights. Yes, I've got 35w 5k in both. Works great!

Yup they just turn off when I move the lever to high beams, but like I said, I have no need for highs with HIDs. Really easy install too.

for the headlights do you just chop the wiring and connect it to the HIDs? did you do the foglight/blinker wire switch mod then connect your HIDs to the running light wires of the truck? or did you have to run a whole new set of wires

with mine I want to have my own set of wires with a switch inside the cab for the fog lights I think it's as easy as running a + ad - set of wires to the fogs with a switch in the cab right?

No its a simple plug and play kit. The wiring harness comes with the kit. I just basically switched the foglights and blinkers by adding wire from the original blinkers and connecting those to my new blinkers (next to headlights) and then vice versa for the fogs.

Ahhh okay I gotcha. I'm doing mine slightly different though I'm all set as far as plug and play for my headlights i'm all set with that. but for my fogs, since i'm doing this mod with my blinkers

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/1st-gen-tacomas/186115-free-blinker-light-relocation-mod-9.html

I'm going to need to run a new set of wires for the fog lights but now since I found out it's a plug and play deal how will I make that work...the way i'm doing it will keep my original running lights in the corner lamps, but the blinker will also be in there after I drill a hole and fit it etc..

Alright maybe it will be easier to do it how you have it set up then instead because that uses original plug ins ... How did you get your corner light(the new blinker) to not hyper blink?

I got LED load resistors from AutoZone for like $6 and that took care of it.

Those go in the green wire that is connected to the blinker right?
