Hey everyone, i had a pretty nasty accident with a rock wall and a stump and some snow. Mangled the drivers side rocker panel pretty badly, as well as the door, the quarter panel and bent the bed in too.. I'm kinda worried about insurance wanting to total my truck.. I checked the kbb value and it's $8,500. I've done a SHITLOAD of work to this thing over the past two years, a new engine with 47k on it, new bearings all around, steering rack, ball joints, sensors, tundra brakes, catback exhaust, driveshaft, powder coated alloys, alpine audio, suspension, i have an lsd to install soon, and so much more. So it would be a total loss for me if it were totaled... I'd be at the bottom of sh** creek with led weights. What do you guys think? What are my chances? and what should i do if they do want to total it. It goes in for an estimate thursday :(

if they total it, take the check and then negotiate to buy it back at a vastly reduced price. :notsure:

I'm thinking thats my best bet, but i live in mass and the salvage vehicle laws are pretty shitty, and the guy at the body shop said the salvage value was high for tacomas. And it would cost more to insure after i got it back

appears to be just body damage, IMO they won't total it. Did you damage the frame or any other vital components?

    Why report it to insurance?

Don't claim anything and over time fix it if you want.

Its almost never a good idea to use your insurance. Madjik man has the right idea. Your paying 2g's a year to protect the next guy.

Just browse some of those Tacoma vids from out west...Those dudes are cheese grating their sheet metal and not even coming off the throttle. :D

It really doesnt look that bad from those pictures you posted.

The front door is pinned shut and doesn't seat, and the back door won't sit seat.. I could just grind it and smash it all back.. Its kinda knarly in person.. I figure I'm 21 and i'm paying a lot for insurance for a while anyway.. Why not make them pay for it

if they total it just buy it back, use the money you have left over to fix it, but unless you bent the frame or something horrible im guessing they wont claim it totaled

When I smashed my rocker panel and the door was pinned shut... I yanked it open with a lot of force then smashed the rocker panel back into place with a 2x4 and hammer.

    Works fine now.

The more I see stuff like this, the more I'm inclined to put sliders on my truck.
