Thanks for the info. I'll have it inspected when I take it in for the spare tire holder recall.

Took it in this morning. The dealership down here knows nothing about the frame replacement, ect. They told me to contact Toyota, and get everything figured out through them and have Toyota contact the dealer so they would know what to do.

They did at least order the spare tire holder parts, so I'll be getting that done soon, just wish Toyota would have a nation wide announcement on these trucks.

Unfortunately Eagle, you are not located in one of the covered states so you may not be covered by the frame rust warranty....

Where did your truck come from ? You may still get Toyota to honor the warranty but local shops will not have been a part of the recall service so their ignorance is genuine.

Every state is covered... You just don't get undercoating in most states.

The truck came from New Jersey, so it's covered, or is supposed to be.

Is this fact? Toyota is very specific about what states are covered by their frame rust program. Eagle's case is unique in that his truck was entered into the program in a covered state so likely his extended warranty is intact but if his truck had spent its life in AL, my understanding is that there is no extended warranty, no inspection program, no undercoating program, no frame replacement program....

I still have my letter and ONLY 20 states are covered , everyone else was told to insert the "letter" if recieved into the owners manual for future reference...

CT,DE,IL,IN,KY,MA,MD,MI,MN,NH,NJ,Ny,OH,PA,RI,VA,VT,WI,WV and the District of Columbia....

This Warranty enhancement notice was sent out to owners in said states and you MUST have proven your ownership by a legal VIN #..

The inspection MUST be performed before 10/31/2010 with a warranty extension being given for a period of 15 years with no mileage limitations...

i just bought a 96 Tacoma 2 wheel drive 2.4 engine, with 98,600 miles on it, no body rust. Today i went to a body shop to have some minor work done only to find out i might have a bad frame, i'm very upset with Toyota, they basically told me after 15 years they will not help me, they will not give me a free inspection, can someone PLEASE tell me where to look for the first spot that will rust out first. I FEEL I'M DRIVING A DEATH TRAP NOW

    Thank you
    Gary

They just finished doing the frame replacement on my '03 today. A buy back might have been nice, but I'm equally happy with getting a new frame, springs, LCA's & all brake lines.

8 months ago when I moved up to New Hampshire. I had no idea about the frame issue, then I took it in for an oil change and they did a complimentary frame test... Next thing I know I'm getting a free loaner car and complete new frame with accessories! I stumbled into lucky situation I guess.

Well i'm not lucky, and was told tough luck pal, i hope there going to enjoy my letter to the editor in the local papers about how nasty Toyota can be, if it was good for 15 years why not 18, DID THEY EXPECT IT WOULD HEAL ITSELF UP ON ITS OWN, IF IT GOT OLDER

I'M REALLY UPSET ABOUT IT, at least they could do is a free inspection, so thy could tell me if my death trap is safe or not, but no way they want $120 just to tell me they make junk, and somehow it's not really there fault. Even if the steel came from china its toyota's job to inspect it for quality, before using it

some how i see myself looking like this guy one day

Got a call from the Toyota case worker today. My truck has the extended frame warranty, and she will be contacting the dealer down here to let them know the procedure. I'm interested to see what happens, because she said any new corrosion or perforations in the frame after the coating has been applied are cause for a replacement. I thought replacement required a good bit of perforations, but apparently after the coating, any new corrosion is enough. I guess I'll know more in a week or so.

She is correct according to how Toyota handled my Re-frame.....My son went over my whole frame with a hammer-test  and found nothing but when I brought in for Toyotas inspection they found one hole the size of a dime near a rear spring mount....

The rest is history; new frame 06/09 :D  ;)

I just bought a 2004 from PA, I'm in VA. There is some rust, but nothing like the swiss cheese some have talked about. I'll take it in to see if they'll do a test.

Mine was undercoated by Toyota in '05? I think. Anyhow, this little hole on the bottom of the rear part of the frame was enough for them to make the decision to replace mine.

    Icepuck;
Had your truck had the undercoat before 2010 deadline?
They say if you missed that as the seller of the truck I bought did; to bad.
Has anyone found that the will replace the frame on a 2001 or newer that hasn't been undercoated?

I'm not sure if mine was sprayed. I don't think my rust is all that bad, but I want to make sure. I just called my local dealership and they said no to me right off the bat, and told me to contact Toyota Customer Service. Luckily, there are 5 more dealerships around I will try first.

My truck received the undercoat in 2011 and is covered.
