Hello. Im on my 4th set of front brake pads on my 4cyn reg cab 2002 Taco with 293,000 miles. However I have yet to change out my rear brake shoes. I check them every time they always look showroom fresh, no wear. The parking brake works fine, I make adjustments in the cable as needed. What concerns me about this is I have always carried a lot of weight 500-800 pounds in the back. I wonder if the rear brakes are not sharing the load when I need them. Any thoughts?

Welcome to TW! The rear brakes dont wear out like the fronts do. They often last 100,000 to 150,000 miles.

check the proportioning valve, also the brake master cylinder, they use two seperate chambers, one front, one rear.

however yes, the rears last much longer, as theyre "dragging" to stop the truck where as the fronts are "digging"

    stock suspension ?

if the rear susp. is lifted any...
the proportioning rod assembly need be
raised off (above) the axle... equal to the susp. lift (")
    not doing so...
would lessen Rr brake stopping power and slow pad wear

I've gone thru 4 sets of front rotor pads...
    never needed touch the rears.
still rolling the original rear pads @ 150K

    they do last awhile

    just sayin

I have about 115K on my rears, which are original, and the shop says they have about 50% left.

I added a leaf spring kit a few years ago which doesn't lift the rear end at all. Thanks for your responses, I thought it was unusual but I guess it really isn't.
