If you had a first generation Tacoma frame that failed inspection due to frame rot, can you share the approximate mileage at which this was discovered, and also your state/province? We'd like to know, as a family member recently passed, and we are readying the '97 Tacoma for sale. It has about 55,000 miles on it. The frame was, and still is, only moderately rusty on the surface, as the truck was used little in the winter, and was garage kept (It just passed PA state inspection). When we have an interested buyer, we want to be upfront about the frame rot issue with Tacomas, and be prepared to answer questions, so your responses will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks!

5100's all the way around, OME 880's and AAL, BF's 265/75R16. Switched beds from Stepside to Fleetside
    1998 Taco, frame failed 2009 with 290 000
km's on it (got $14750 for it). This truck was from Fort Neslon BC, no salt up there too cold, but lived in Ontario from 2002 to 2009...lots of Salt.

2002 Taco, frame failed and replaced at 120 000kms, in 2011. Truck was from Ottawa, then here in Sudbury.

My father's 98 was inspected 3 times. The 3rd time it failed at 185k miles. NH truck since new. My 96 passed at 230k, also a NH truck since new. However when I bought it with 250k 2 years later I was able to punch through the inner framerail on the passenger side with a pick hammer by the rear spring hanger. Fortunately I can weld and it's good to go now. They rust from the inside out. My dad's 98 looked fine from the outside, as did my 96 when I bought it last fall. Had I not got out the hammer I'm sure mine would have passed inspection just fine.

    New frame mod. 265/75/16 Duratracs.
Why not just take the truck to a Toyota dealer, have them inspect the frame, then give that information to prospective buyers? Also how the frame looks from the outside means nothing as they rust from the inside out.
