My truck has 360 000km on it. roughly 250 000 miles. And i believe its still on original timing belt :dancingbacon: I emailed the owner i bought off and he has owned since 150 000km and has never replaced. It just finished a 800 km trip and i thought i better check into it. The truck runs fine but has some squeaks and rattles in the belt bearings. Would doing a complete timing belt kit add for running better/ quieter or a little mpg? I am assuming the answer is no. But im sure the belt is hurting. When I pull it off will the belt have signs of age ( cracking, dry)?

The timing belt should be changed every 90k miles so you're way overdue at 250k. If it is that old with that many miles, I'm sure you'll see signs of cracking on the belts. Replace the waterpump while you're at it.

You can never tell if a timing belt is bad.......

The outside can be nice & black and clean and look bran new...but the internal material is what holds it together (or not). It can pull apart & break at any moment if the internal material is weak. I work with these types of belts on a daily basis on machinery.

    You're on borrowed time......
Have the water pump & thermostat changed while you're in there!
