Replaced my beltss today (2.7) When I had them off the ac adj pulley was floppy I thought odd, must just be something loose, well after I got everything together again and running it was still loose (I think it could be making a noise as well..)

Seems like this is a popular problem is it worth putting a new bearing into or just replace the entire unit (write up?)

    Thanks

    Bump..

The bearing seems to feel smooth (spins decent) but rocks back and forth. The bolt is tight? Whats going on??!?! Should I pull it off and replace the pulley (bearing appears to be just glued in).

Thanks... Im searching found lots of propbs with the 3.4 but not the 2.7

The bearing/pulley is a simple fixed unit. They are very inexpensive at the parts houses.

I have already bought it ($25 dayco). It sounds like its comming from the A/C adj pulley, when the belts off it spins smoothly but it rocks back and forth (quite badly).

I guess I should just replace it. I noticed it last week when changing my belts out trying to 'fix' the noise..

    Thanks for any help

The 'new' one didn't look or feel (weight) like the Toyota one. Its a dayco from orielly with like a 1 year warranty. The Toyota one felt and looked better built-Snap ring to hold the bearing in and was much heavier. The bearing wasn't shot but it was definitely on its way out (wobbly) Im going to rebuild the Toyota one (new beaering) and keep it for a spare. Pic of new one (bearing doesn't look fully seated?

Anyway, no wobbles but still have some kinda noise from the engine (poss exhaust leak?..)

In case anyone (like I was) is searching the PN on the bearing is 6301 (same as other threads I found, but In the other threads seems like everyone had a 3.4 v6) Couldn't confirm whether or not its the same PN for 4 and 6 cyl.

$6 and change I don't need 2 pulleys but I'll have the good Toyota one for a spare and it will give me a a 15 minute project to pop the new bearing in :)

Those bearings should be easily available at a picknpull yard. According to the Rockauto database, the EXACT SAME pulley is used in Tercels, Corollas, and Chevy Metros.
