Good luck with that in the summer or winter. Props for doing it yourself though.

Ended up getting halfway through one of them and had to use the stock for something else.... so no hahaha.

If I get some time in the lab I'll see what I can do, I still have the program saved somewhere I just need like 28 hours in a day to get everything done lol.

Had 2 of my builders require 5 rush sets of carburetors so I've had very few hours to do anything else.

@vtrguy I'm new here and I know that this thread is 5 years old now, but I'm looking to do this exact thing for a near future rally-type hatchback. I stumbled across this in my search and as far as I can tell, you're part of a select few people who actually went through with a mod like this.

I have been researching for weeks now trying to decide how I want to produce the base, and I think I've worked out a deal with a local machine shop near me.

The problem I'm running into is finding the right ball compass. The one in your original picture looks adequate so I have a few questions.
    • What is the brand of the compass? Product name?
    • How did you separate the ball from the housing? I can only find ball compass in a housing ready for mounting. Did you somehow get a standalone product without housing?
    • Do you still have the design file for the base?
    • What binding agent was used to seal compass to base?
    • How did this ever turn out? Did it last in the five years between inception/production and the present?
Any information you can provide is appreciated. I'm sure I'll get this built eventually, but your help could quicken the process!

If you need to know anything else, let me know.

    Thanks!
