electrical question

my first question to the experts here is about the electrical system. so about a month ago i took a 200 mile trip across state and on my return trip i noticed that my cruse control was not working. it did on the way out but not the way back. so i thought it was a fuse but they all check out. then the next week the air bag light came on, but the air bag never diploid. and finally i found out the other day that my horn does not work. but the blinkers and window wipers do work. so is there a master steering column fuse somewhere i missed or are all these problems not related. how can i test to see if the horn still works cause that could have just gone bad? some one please help me im confused.

 

Sounds like theres a problem in the circuit that goes to the steering wheel

 

It is probably related to the rotating connection in the steering column. It resides between the wheel and non moving part of the column.

 

if the air bag light is on and the horn doesnt work it sounds like a clockspring to me. its located under the steering wheel. the clockspring controls the air bag one on the steering wheel and if that goes out then usually the horn stops working.

 

thanks for the reply's. ill have to test the horn tomorrow. yes all fuses check out, both cab and engine boxes. is there a way for me to determine if the problem is in the steering column or should i just take it to the dealership and have them diagnose it?

you can do it yourself, just get a steering wheel remover and its pretty basic, just remember to disconnect the battery before you unhook the airbag

 

Toyotese for 'clockspring' = 'spiral cable'.

... And I agree that would be the most likely suspect for the symptoms you described.
