1st gen CA smog legal intake?

Does any one have this smog legal intake on their truck? If so, is it really smog legal in California and does it come with C.A.R.B. EO exempt number?...

I used to. I just sold it 2 weeks ago. I think I still have the sticker stuck to the inside of my hood (from the original owner) that shows it is CARB ok too.

My AEM Brute Force is legal and dry flow filter. Much better then the oil K&N.

Just keep your stock airbox for cheap insurance.

My buddy w/a CAI went to three different smog places and all rejected to pass him because it was "modified". Might save you a headache.

I have the same one on my truck and never had any problems with smog. I love the way my motor sounds with it. : )

In Cali you want to have a CARB sticker
that can be affixed somewhere in the engine bay.

If it doesn't come with CARB approval...
it can fail the visual test.

I've had a K&N fipk installed since 2001
never had a issue passing smog.

I also still have muh oem air box (w deck plate mod)
tho' I really haven't found any real reason for swapping back.
Maybe once when I was headed for a trail that had many known
water crossings.. but besides that instance... never

Fact is... any intake you install will likely lose a coupla' HP...
yer not going to feel that at the pedal tho'

IMO... the K&N does increase throttle response...
but it is minimal... and the intake sucking noise
is what thrills people most.

I have never had issue with muh fipk intake syst.
Never fubar'd the MAF from over oiling.
I think most folk compare the fipk element
to the K&N "drop in" element for the oem air box...
IMO the drop in element can be problematic.
and is this element that everyone tends to over oil.
Thus saturating the MAF and causing throttle issues.

It doesn't destroy the MAF usually...
and a quick cleaning (oil film removal) usually puts it back on par.
But I still refuse to use that drop in element.

For the oem AB... I just stick with the oem fuzzy filter.

Alternative...

You can get the same performance of a aft. mkt. intake
by simply modifying your oem air box.
Installing the deck plate mod will give you the same sound.
Yeah yer still likely to lose a coupla' HP
But if a performance sound is what yer after...

The deck plate mod is the least expensive...
and basically offers the same throttle response
and suction noise as a full intake syst.
And with spending less money.

That said...
still like muh FIPK intake syst.
Because I haven't bought a filter element since muh junk was new.
The last fipk element became dry rotted after 12 years use.
K&N sent me another to replace the original... no charge.
Their lifetime warranty is for real

Many folks have hoped to gain performance by installing
aft. mkt. intake systems.

But IMO... that's a waste of money
unless the lifetime filter element might appeal to you
and saves you money over it's lifetime of use.

* if you install the DP to the oem AB...
I recommend closing that when conducting smog tests.
out of sight, out of mind, works best for smog techs looking to make mo' money.
