Hi, I've got a stock 2002 TRD SR5 4x4 DCab . I live in st.thomas US virgin islands where we never drive faster than 40-50 mph. Overdrive is almost never used. To get anywhere your constantly climbing hills some very steep. I recently realized it should be a lot easier to climb these hills if I had lower final drive gears and it should give the truck better acceleration.

Would there be any cons with this setup I may be overlooking?

Another solution, is to install tires with a smaller diameter. Same effect.

If anything I'm gonna go up tire size but not much no more than 33"s. Maybe is should go lower to 4.88 I just don't want the auto tranny to shift like crazy to get anywhere.

Does anyone know what I should be expecting to pay with front and rear (e-locker) gear replacement? Ballpark?
