Should I replace the studs (come with) Any tips advise? Should I put any threadlocker on anything?

If it came with new studs, go ahead and replace them.

Thread lock the studs into the block.

And make sure you use a new block to header gasket and tighten the studs in a criss cross pattern.

Picked up some silver header paint, ANTI-SEIZE, PB blaster (should go spray the bolts now going to remove friday eve or sat).

Should I use anti seize on the studs going into the head or should I use threadlocker?

Thanks cant wait to drive/hear it fixed!! Maybe I'll get some power back outta it

I just sprayed the bolts that hold the manifold to the block. I guess I should spray the bolts that hold the pipe to the manifold too (forgot).

Anything else I should be pre lubing?

Washed down with brake cleaner, sprayed with VHT high temp silver paint.

Drying at hobby shop now,hopefully no-one steals it

Will pick it up in a hour or two. Should I pop it in the oven to 'cure' it or just wait until its on the truck and let that 'bake' it on? Would it give off fumes?

I'd toss it in the oven if you have access to one. Most headers i have put on cars in the past will bake the finish a bit and give off fumes on the first run.

Next time don't use brake cleaner to clean something before you paint it. Brake cleaner and carb cleaners have additives in them that can affect paint adhesion.

Don't sweat it, just some food for thought

Best thing to use is either denatured alcohol or acetone.

well im 6 hours in and still not done

All I lack is 1 stud in the EGR (lil pipe in the rear) and tightening/torquing and putting everything back and cleaning up. Hopefully I can meet with some board members and wheel tomorow but its not looking good. Hobby shop opens back up @ 9AM hopefully I can get it all back together in 1 1/2 hour or so, then go wheel?

Also, I unhooked the connector just past the air filter...I didnt un hook the batter just unplugged it.

Will I have problems or anything (new to computer controlled stuff hence the username)

All done, took about 8 hours (stupid stuff). Good fit minus the dipstick hits the manifold I'll trim it a bit next weekend till then f it im tired of workin on it lol

maybe a touch more power and def no noises lol

Big +1 on the LCE.

I've had one of their 4-1 stainless steel smog legal headers on my 1996 for well over a decade and it still looks the same as the day I installed it.


I wish they made a smog legal one for my 2012.

Idk the best sequence for removal/installation but I just left the studs in the head (aluminum) and removed the rest PITA to get put back in

note to others-the dipstick will rub the header (Transmission) i havent tried trimming it but will try and update the thread..
