Ford did this on their 1997 F150s.
It wrecked havoc on the rear drum brakes on the right side.
The exhaust gasses corroded the rim and the brake drum.

I like that, have been considering doing it somewhere in my bed- behind the passenger rear tire. That'll give you great clearance. Looks good too.

This is my thought too. It can either be really cool or an ugly hack job.

If it's really clean - it'll be cool. I toyed with the idea but eventually just settled for an exhaust dump just behind the rear axle because it was roughly 100 times less work.

Don't do it unless you wash your truck every weekend and layer on a shitload of hard wax on that panel.
It will stain the paint and be impossible to get off otherwise.

Please don't ruin a perfectly good truck. You do realize that should you ever decide to sell the truck, you're de-valuing it by thousands by putting two holes in bed side. Obviously you can do whatever you want it's your truck, but as original as it is, and believe my I like originality, on an everyday Tacoma I think it's going to look stupid. I don't know how else to explain it, but if I saw you on the road in an everyday Tacoma with two holes and an exhaust coming out of your bed side, I'd would be like "what the f&$ck is that doing on a Tacoma". But hey do what you want, just trying to stop you from making a dumb mistake.

I'm with the last two replies. There is absolutely no functional reason to do this. You are better off just hanging a set of truck nuts off the back and call it a day... at least you could remove these easily if you decide to sell.

Are the bedsides on first gens removable like 2nd gens? If so, when time comes to sell just replace bedside and re reroute exhaust: Bam. Like it never happened.

No. The second gens have removable bedsides b/c of the composite bed. 1st gens have a standard one piece steel bed.
