Hello I have a 1989 Toyota Pickup with a 22re v4 2.7L engine. I was driving it the other day and going down the road you would be in gear and then it would rev up like it was in neutral but was still in gear. Finally it decided that it didn't want to be a mover. You can move through all the gears without pushing in the clutch and the stick moves just as if u had the clutch engaged.

Pressure plate can't hold clutch any more because it has worn down.

Kinda like a brake worn down to the point that it doesn't work.

whole clutch, the disc, pressure plate,Throw out bearing, pilot bearing, and aliment tool just remember to get the flywheel turned and while you got the tranny out if your rear main is leaking fix it. Also when you put the flywheel back on put blue thread locker on the flywheel bolts and torqe to 80 ft/lbs

Pushing pedal, pushes on pressure plate which pulls clutch disc off flywheel, allowing shift without grinding.

If pressure plate couldn't pull disc off flywheel and the disc was fine, it wouldnt slip. I would just be hard to change gears, since tranny wouldn't stop spinning (or slow down).

But, agree on changing pressure plate and throwout bearing, if replacing clutch disc.
