I have a 2004 tacoma with a 2.7 5 speed. The truck started to make a weird noise so i took it to toyota after me coming to the conclusion that it was probably the release bearing. I took it to toyota they were going to replace the clutch and all the bearings for 1200 so i did the clutch myself. After completing the install of the new clutch and bearings (release bearing being pretty worn) the niose is still present. Any ideas on what the noise is or whats causing it? Im thinking a bearing in the tranny. I took a video of the noise but its crappy... iphone. Thanks for the help in advance.

That is either a bearing or a damaged gear. Does it do it in all gears?

The clutch release bearing will only make noise when your clutch pedal is pressed in... any noise with clutch engaged is transmission internals.... usually input shaft bearing. :-(

did u change the pilot bearing? If the noise is present with clutch pedal pressed, it could be the cause.

Hey, if you have the tools and ability to pull and re-build it, then that is certainly the best way to go.

Marlin does offer the W59 on their web-site.

They have the rebuilt tranny but they do not have a rebuild kit. I already dropped the tranny. Just need to get a kit and start the rebuild.

I finally got the tranny rebuilt at a local shop. Hoping to put it in tomorrow. I get the feeling its not going to solve my problem though. might have to replace the gears in the tranny. Anyone else have this issue with their w59 or is it just me?
