Engine freshly rebuilt due to blown head gasket, built my own CAI, EGR delete from LCEngineering, Billstein 5125's in the back with GM leafs, I can't stand paying for something that I can make in my garage so I built my own spacers for the front and tweaked them for 3" of lift.
I drove my truck to the store friday night, everything was running good with no sputtering or any other problems. I was in the store for maybe 10 mins and when I came back out truck would not even think about starting up. I came back in town today and I was able to replace the fuel filter, but no change, I sprayed starting fluid in the air intake (I know this isn't good but I'm trouble shooting) and it wanted to start. So before I spend $150 on a fuel pump is there anything else I can check? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure it's fuel related? Does it crank at all? Did you pull your plugs to see if you're getting spark?

    Battery??

Sometimes batteries can 'die' instantly. I've had it happen many times.... including (as you mentioned) being out shopping somewhere and (my husband's Acura) the thing won't start. Just a click and then nothing. Had to call AAA for a rescue.

X2 dont waste money you don't have to spend
Look for spark, make sure battery has enough voltage
Does it actually crank? Turn over?

    get the battery tested.

could also be the starter contacts are bad. Very easy to repair yourself and cheap. Much better then buying a new aftermarket one.

    Any codes?

could also be a MAF Problem.

The truck turns over great, no codes, I checked the fire and all is well there, changed fuel filter, and tested the battery, and still no start up. Im not sure how to test a MAF, wouldn't it throw a code if it were the MAF?

I know on my 22re there is a jumper for the fuel pump so you can bypass the Circuit Open relay and check to see if the pump works, Maybe someone on here more knowledgeable about the 2.7 can chime in if there is a similar jumper?

Well evidently it's not getting fuel if the starting fluid is helping it.

    Start with the obvious...

Check for blockage from the tank to the pump/filter to the injectors
Check for split or cracked fuel lines, or vacuum hoses
    Do you smell gas?

    Next, try the electrical...
Does the fuel pump sound like it's on when you turn the key?
check the fuse, check the ground, check power to fuel pump

Next, have the computer checked out... having no codes is nice but if you're not making progress have the computer checked again

Bypass will not work on 3rzfe, I don't smell gas, but I have noticed that if I let the truck sit for a while with the key off it acts like it wants to start when I attempt to start it again. When I disconnect the fuel line from the filter a steady stream comes out, this happens with key off and when I turn key on there is know change in pressure.

Sounds like a fuel supply issue from your description. Could be pump or control. I will double check wiring schematics when I get to work tomorrow to see what I can suggest to test first.

Billies on all four corners with daystar spacer lift. Bought it like this. Replacing done with toytec ultimate 3" lift
it sounds like fuel issue to me also. If you said the pressure doesn't change, then maybe the fuel filter is clogged up or just need to replace the pump. If you do that, I would go ahead and replace the filter as well.

The filter was the first thing I replaced hoping for a quick fix. :(

Have you checked all fuses to see if maybe your EFI fuse is blown? Can you hear the fuel pump power on when you turn the key?

If the fuel pump is turning on then your fuel pressure is bleeding off for some reason or your fuel pump is on its way out I would think.

It was a faulty fuel pump, replaced it today. Thanks for all the help!

That's good to hear, how did you figure it was faulty? (for future reference

Man I tried everything that I could do myself without paying someone, so I pulled the whole unit out of the tank and turned the key on. The pump was dead!! :D I guess it was the hard way but I had no other choice.
