I was thinking of doing the deckplate mod... Has it shown any results? Would I need a better filter or intake tube to see results?

It's been dyno'ed on the 2.7 and showed I think 5 hp. Try searching around on here, there's tons of info.

I'm surprised, we haven't had a deckplate mod question in awhile! Yeah I think they dyno'd at like 7 or 8hp increase.

Drop an AFE Pro Dry-S filter in it and you're done.

What exactly does the deckplate mod do? does it work with a K&N filter?

No, it's harmless (unless you cross a river with the cover off) - but I doubt highly that it'll help your gas mileage...although someone may say it helped theirs.

Many many years ago when I owned my 96..... I did the deck plate mod and had a K&N filter in it.

The deckplate mod is a 4"-6" round hole in your airbox with a screw-in lid. It allows for more airflow. You can choose to keep the lid OFF (open airbox) or screw the lid back on (stock closed airbox). The most noticeable benefit (for me anyway) was better throttle response (3.4L manual).

When you go offroading - you screw the lid back in and close up the airbox to keep the dirt / mud out (more or less).

Anyone know how to remove the front part of the air filter box without unhooking my entire hose and intake system
