Got kind of a weird question here. Today I had a muffler put on by Midas and its making this weird howling noise when I accelerate. Anyone ever have anything like this? Hope they didn't put the wrong muffler on.

don't hear it... nor see it !? :notsure:

but you want us to guess

    hmmm...

Maybe the dorks at midas installed it backwards !?

    or

Maybe they used 2.5 or 3 inch pipe after the can !?

    or

Maybe you got one of those whistle mufflers installed !? :p

    I'm done guessing... Lol

Ya, Kinda vauge? Crawl under that thing and maybe look around a little, write down some specs on the muffler, part numbers maybe brand?

    Thanks,

Probably this. OP take the truck back and tell them to change the muffler bearings out. If they don't, your truck will continue to wear down the tires!

Was it welded? They might have not welded it right or left some holes. Kinda hard to say with limited info. Maybe have another shop check it out?

Yeah it was welded and there are no holes. I looked under there and it's not backwards, probably just a piece of garbage muffler. I'll check and see who makes it so everyone knows not to purchase this thing lol.

Did they cause the exhaust flanges for the cats to break loose some? After getting my muffler replaced it was quiet for the first day then it started roaring again (hole in the muffler before) and that was my issue.

Well I took it back to Midas today and they said the noise is coming from the muffler just like I thought and they said that's just the way it is. They won't exchange it, but if I bring in a different muffler they would install it free of charge. Any suggestions for mufflers? Just need something quite for the 2.7L that won't make a howling noise.

My flowmaster 40 sounds great. Not Ricey and not too loud. It has just the right tone

take that business to small claims

well... unless you specifically requested the cheapest
    crap they sell !?

then that would be on you.

But if it was their recommendation
and it does not function as it should as a OEM replacement.
They should be held accountable (liable) for selling you sub-grade components.

I'd prolly take them up on their free labor offer...
buy a MF or FM or something else, and have them install that.

Make sure they use 2.25" dia. tailpipe tubing...
    larger will just aggravate things...
cause more scavenging issues (noise) and less torque.
Larger diameter tubing tends to back fire slightly
or make scavenging noises that are less then desirable. IME

    I tried a 2.5" dia tailpipe...
cut that crap off quick and replaced it with 2.25"
    all better ;)
