manual hub re-installing the axle

Alright i need help quick. my buddies truck has a 6 inch lift and both lower and upper ball joints sheared off and the spindle went flying. so now i need to put the truck back together. after replacing much of the front end i am now stuck on how to put this axle in. i have never done one with a manual locking hub. i have done the ADD axles 40 times on my truck and i can do it in no time but this manual hub has me beat.

 

no one ever replaced a axle?

i dont have a problem i have never done a manual hub and the shop i work for hasnt done one in many years so i am kinda lost on it. I know on auto hubs you simply slip the axle end in the hub and tighten the huge nut on the outside of the hub. but on a manual i am guessing it is only held on by a c clip?

 

Yes held on by c clip, but also seen some that have a bolt on the end of the shaft.

 

So how do you go about putting the axle in? Sliding it in the installing the c clip?

Only difference is the snap ring on tacoma's have it behind the other part of the hub.

 

I did away with the snap ring and just used the bolt on the end of the axle.

The snap ring holds the axle in the diff, i would defiantly not "do away with it"

The "outer snap ring", like the one in the pic.

The purpose of the outer snap ring is to keep the axle from sliding out of the hub.
