First post was in the wrong section.

I'm 19 and looking to buy my first Tacoma.
    It's a 1998 Tacoma SR5 with 286,000 miles. It's the v6 edition 4x4.

My main purposes for this truck is commuting to college (4hrs) every couple of months. When at college or at home it will be much less, around 5 miles tops. I will also use this for off roading during hunting season in the South Georgia mud.

    Here's the listing.

How does this truck look? I'm also taking my Dad along, he'shad several Tacomas-4 Runners and has modded them himself.

I'm mainly worried about the very high mileage and it's not a full 4 door truck. Besides that I'm in love.

Price is way to high in my opinion. Do you need four doors? What is your price range?

I talked him down to $5700 right now, seems to be pretty firm at this price.

My price is up to $6k. I'd like 4 doors as I'm a college student and I drive my friends around, but it's not a necessity.

I think it looks a little expensive for that many miles., do you need 4x4? or just 4 doors?

I just paid $6k for an '03 TRD Extended cab with half as many miles and a clean CARFAX. You will come across a much better deal

Yeah I'm going to look at it tomorrow and talk with him in person. Ideally I'd take $5k for it, good deal or still high?

What I am looking for is 4x4 at least with an extended cab. V6 preffered.
Crew Cab is just something extra.

Down here in Georgia, the 1996-2004 Tacomas have been selling for rediculously high numbers.

Most 96-00 Tacomas with 190-300k miles are starting at $4k-6k
I saw an 04 crew cab 4x4 sell for $10,200 and many more in the $12,000 all with higher 100k+ mileage

That's the problem with an awesome truck. They hold their value well. Well, it's a problem when you're buying it anyway haha

That's exactly why I'm looking to buy one!

What would be a fair price for the 98 4x4 with 286,000? $5k?

$5k is probably acceptable with that many miles, maybe a bit more if you love it. It looks nice and clean, but with that many miles you will be replacing parts here and there. These trucks aren't cheap...

Is $5500 a good price for this truck? It seems to be the cheapest truck I've found in 3 months of looking. It's racked up with miles but I'm going with my Dad who knows Tacomas very well. He can determine if the truck is worthy of buying.

Still not worth it in my opinion.

I would keep looking. I spent longer than a month searching online for the best options. expand your search, sometimes the good deals are a couple hundred miles away.

If you love that truck and it checks out OK, $5500 is not an unreasonable price. I have seen Tacomas like that go for more. Yes, it has a lot of miles, but you WILL pay exponentially more $$ for fewer miles on a Tacoma... so if that's your budget, don't be afraid to pull the trigger.
