Ok, I'm totally torn on what to do here. I have a '99 Tacoma TRD Limtited 4X4 that took me quite some time to find. I've owned it for almost 5 years and haven't had any problems with it. My dilemma is I really need a 4 door truck for family stuff. I'm looking at a '13 double cab TRD off road, which will suits my needs, but am having serious reservations about selling my '99.

    Here are my questions:

    1. What's a reasonable selling price for the '99 TRD Limited, totally stock, with 137k with clean records and up to date maintenance? (I've been offered 9500 for it, and 8500 from a dealer)

    2. Would you sell your 1st gen to buy a 2nd gen?

Just looking for insight from others that have gone through this process.

Here's some shots of the '99 (truck has dings and scratches, hard to see in the pics)

We need a truck for hauling duties. The wife has 4 door car also. We need something that can get us over the maintain passes, and can still haul dirt. we also don't really have room for a third car/truck.

I thought about keeping the truck at my moms house, but the wife isn't too stocked on me hording vehicles... lol

That's a hard decision... The new 2nd gens are nice, but everybody that gets rid of their 1st gen for a 2nd gen regrets it. With your wife already having a four door car, do you really need to get another 4 door truck? I say try your best to keep it. I bought mine from a guy with a growing family, and he was sad to sell it. After I bought it from him, I had to take him back to his house. I let him drive it back home, he definitely hated selling it.

Yeah, I have even sold it yet, and have sellers remorse...

You'll probably regret it, but, needs of the family... understandable. I'd hold out for 10K, you can probably get it if you're not in a hurry. Real nice stock truck. Too bad you can't hold onto it and make it your project vehicle with the new purchase.

Same story with me. My seller almost backed out during the deal. I sent him a pic with the bumper when I built it and he said he missed it a lot.

I think my seller texted me for 2 weeks letting me know what brand of fluids he used, and a bunch of other random stuff about the truck haha

Haha, I bet that made you feel good about your purchase. Sounds like your seller really took care of your truck.

Oh yeah, I got a great truck. The only thing wrong with it when I bought it was a burnt out running light bulb and the latch and the rear driver side window is broke, not that I ever use it anyway. He forgot to mention those things to me until the day I bought it, so he knocked off $100 haha

OP, if you do feel that you really need a four door truck for your family, you can't go wrong with a new 2nd gen. As for price, I'm sure you could get $10,000 easy if it's as clean as it looks.

I'm certain I could get 10k for it. Everything works and is clean, no rust either...Even has the little visor inserts with instructions on how to use the 4x4 and locker.

    Lots to think about...

$10.7K no lower. Personally, stock I'd pay $11K for it w/ no rust.
IMO it'll sell for even that. Just gotta wait for a good buyer who appreciates what you've done as a responsible owner keeping records & using quality fluids and just taking pride in owning your truck. You're gonna get a lot of kids with Daddy's money scenarios. Fuck em unless they pay.
As for the '13, its really a negative to me considering:

    *New car payment
    *New car insurance
*Bigger motor = more gas useage
*Mods cost more on 2nd Gens:p
*Still have factory wheel bearing issues

**if be it sold, I'd hunt down a nice 01-04 DC 4x4 & call it a day.;)

This is what I need to hear! My offer for 9500 was from a daddy wanting to buy this for his 19 year old kid.

    Thank for the insight!

If you need the DC i'd sell it for a 01-04 DC 4x4 or a 05-08 dc 4x4.

Interesting, why only '05-'08? I agree, if I could find an equally nice 1st gen double cab, I'd be all over it.

i'm not a fan of the A-trac system on the 09+ models, plus the newer you get the more expensive the vehicle is.
