Hey Guys I was wondering if you could help me? My 02 Tacoma prerunner v6 has been giving me trouble starting recently, especially if the A/C is on. It will basically start up and die. Sounds like Vrroooomffffffffffff.....die. The next few tries it will start, idle very rough, then die. I basically need to rev it big time if I want it to stay on. The CE light then comes on, but goes away by the next day. This usually happens every few days or so but today it happened three times. Any Idea?

Get the codes checked, post them. We can go from there. Too many options without more information.

Okay guys so I got the scanner, did a check and pulled up a P0120 code. Change the TPS right? Well I did that. It ran way better for a day and now back to square one with trouble starting. Today the CEL came back on and now I am getting a P0121 code. Any thoughts?

    Interesting.

According to my FSM, a P0120 means voltage from the TPS is outside of the normal range (either bad ECM, TPS, or a problem with the wiring between them). A P0121 only means bad TPS.

Well that sucks considering its a new TPS. I guess that is what I get for going cheap and buying NAPA. Thanks for you help Tan4x4. Looks like I'll be buying an oem TPS from the stealership.

You might want to check voltages and TPS resistance before you spend more money. It's a pretty simple device.
