Well guys I must have Murpheys law with tacomas. The one I was looking at supposedly had a new motor put in 70,000 mile ago but the owner doesn't have proof and now he is being a little fishy so I am going to pass. I did come across a 2002 limited 4x4 double cab for sale from the original owner if 12.5. Here is what she wrote to me about it.

    - 2002 4x4 double cab Tacoma, V6 automatic, Limited edition with the TRD off road package, silver in color.
-It has 147K miles, but they are all road miles - my idea of off-roading is gravel or grass. ;) It's never been "mudding" or "rock climbing". It has been immaculately maintained - all scheduled maintenance done and I have the records to prove it.

-Extras: it has a Rhino Liner bed liner, stainless steel tool box, bed extender, Flowmaster exhaust and a K&N air filter. I've had seat covers on the front seats for over 10 years, so the seat fabric is in great condition. I don't smoke, so it's never been smoked in. It also has an aftermarket Alpine stereo in it. The stereo has AM/FM/SAT, CD player and iPod connector with a remote control.

-I just put Bilstien 4100 shocks on it last summer, and they only have about 2K miles on them. It has almost brand new tires and rims (they have about 3800 miles on them). I also just replaced the headlights, grill and front side lights, as well as the washer fluid reservoir.

Kelly Blue Book has it listed for $10,706 and NADA has it for $11,025. It has well over $2K in extras, plus almost brand new tires. I'm asking $12,500K.

I think she is asking a little high so I am going to try to talk her down. I haven't had really good luck with buying used vehicles so I am really like the idea of buying from the original owner with all the maintenance records. What do you guys think of it?

I picked up my 04 DBL/C 2WD non TRD with 92k on it 5 years ago for 11,500 here in Houston. I'm now at just over 200k and the only thing I've had to do to it is replace the ac compressor. That Silver one looks clean as can be with the exception of those god awful seat covers. I'd pull the trigger on it before someone else does. :D

Ya I really want to pick it up but I have to see when I have to time to drive up to kileen to check it out. I'm not a big fan of those seat covers but for being 11 years old they have held up pretty well. It was on Craigslist for a while so I am surprised no one snagged it up

3" lift EIBACH coils w/ 5100's front, OME/ Dakar leaf springs w/ toytec adjustable shackles at 1.5" and 5125's out back. 33x10.5x15 KM2's Relentless DIY steel bumper.
Hasn't been snagged yet because the price is a little high! 10.5-11 at most.

Though I'm sure if she is sticking with 12.5 she will get a buyer eventually. Just gonna take a while. Hopefully she will come down a bit

    Good Luck!!!

Another double cab 4x4 just popped up that is a 2004 with 83k miles for $16500. It's a dealer that is selling it. I thought they were asking too much and on KBB the retail value on it is $22,000! I'm shocked it is still worth that much

I'd jump on that 2002 and try to talk her down a bit. That's a good looking well maintained truck and the double cabs always seem to go for a premium.

    Good luck!

Ya I am going to try to work with her and see what kind of price I can get but she seems to think that she is able to get the money back from all of the stuff she put into it.

I got mine on CL in 09 with 160k in Hawaii. The guy wanted $9400 for it. Tacoma's out here hold there value a lot better and are highly sought after, so prices are a lil higher than in the mainland! U can't take a 20 min drive w/o seeing at least 25+ Tacoma's in various yrs. When I was 90% sure I wanted it and went over the entire truck with my own eyes and test drove it (everything looked to be in very good condition), I took it to Toyota and had them do their 121 point inspection on it like THEY were goin to buy and resell it. They came back with $1600 worth of worn out parts. Nothing damaged, just regular wear and tear. I went back to the seller with the results and negotiated $800 off the price (tried the full $1600 first and met in the middle). So I got it for $8600. Having these results from Toyota is a great negotiation tool!! Now, I got lucky with a reasonable seller who was willing to let me do this b4 I agreed to purchase it (not always gunna be the case)! The "bumper to bumper" inspection cost me $120, so only do this when u are almost entirely sure u want that particular vehicle!! $800 might not seem like a lot but I was lookin at this as a long term investment and the seller even allowing me to do this with no money changing hands yet was huge. Im happy to say I just passed 245,000k and drive it 120+ miles a day and off road when I can!

Not worth 10k, but it is a damn nice truck. I'd say 7-8k, tops.
