I have just made my final payment on my 2002 Taco and now will have some cash to put into it. It is a Pre Runner with a 4 banger and just does not have the power I need to get around the city or to tows up into the mountains.

Would I be further ahead/cheaper by dropping a 6 cylinder in her or adding a super charger?

Thanx in advance for your input

If you need more power just sell it and get what you want. Keep it and get a sports car. Regear it to better suit your needs. I have a double cab auto with 4.56 gears from the factory and its pretty peppy around town. I know it's a 4 cylinder and I don't expect it to be more than that!!

No one supercharges the 4 cyl. I don't even think there is one.

Turbo charge however.... that's another story, and many people have turbo charged the 4 cylinders and made good power (just as much or more power than supercharged 3.4 5vzs in fact). Search around customtacos.com for info.

    Happy for you:)

Thanks for the suggestions. It look like getting a 6 cylinder will work for what I need to tow. The mountains are very steep around here and the 4 cylinder just is not cutting it.

TRD used to make a supercharger for the 3rz but it hasn't been in production for a while.

If you're going through the trouble of a swap you may as well put a diesel or v8 or something better than the 5vz-fe. Maybe a supra motor. But that's just the kid in me talkin.
