Would carfax show if the timing belt and other parts were changed? I just bought a 04 Tacoma double cab the other day and I'm not sure if this has been done yet. It has 143,000 mi.

Car fax will only show what was reported to the insurance company/dealership. It's not as reliable as commercials portray it. For example: I get into a fender bender and I don't report it to insurance. Other person pays me off in cash and I fix on my own. Car fax will never know. Hope this helps!

Depends. I've seen carfax reports that had detailed service work. But those were when the work was done at a dealership. It all depends if the shop bothers to report it.

HAHA Carfax is only as reliable as the people who report to it. I'm gonna post my dumb ass story... Buy wives Venza from dealership, thought I got a great deal. Dealer says "oh ya this is a great find...it was a demo vehicle by our sales manager". I did a some what decent once over at the dealer...after a long negotiating process, bought it. Fast forward three weeks...I'm detailing it to go to florida. What do I find...All kinds of evidence pointing to a not so minor rear end accident. The stuff is only noticable if you are really looking for it and I am by no mean a professional when it comes to spoting stuff like this. Moral of the story... the accident is no where on the CarFax and the dealership sold the vehicle as "Never Wrecked" boy was I heated. Toyota corporate got a very nice email from me regarding "Andy Mohr" Toyota in Indianapolis, Indiana.

My tacos carfax report is wrong. It says I have an accident on there that shouldnt be there. I was pulling a trailer and hita car. no damage to the truck what so ever. The trailer only sustained minor damage.

I'm no rocket scientist, buuuuuuuut that sounds like an accident to me. So how is the carfax report wrong? Are you saying the trailer hit the car and not your truck?

obviously an error, but someone had to report it, maybe you can get it modified back to 'clean' with some footwork as it will make a huge difference when it comes to selling or trading...

A salvage title can be cleaned in certain circumstances, heck, mine was a salvage title because it was stolen and suffered some cosmetic front end damage prior to recovery, all easy to fix, but enough for the insurance company to total, once fixed, inspected and recertified, you can then get a 'clean' title, depending on the state you live in....

It runs and rides like new after wrenching and TLC....these trucks are worth the extra effort....

I actually only get my VW serviced at the dealership because I know when I go to sell it someone is going to look at the CARFAX and see the service history. But for instance when I looked up my Taco which had be seen by independent shops it only said "vehicle serviced"
