Well as you have seen by my multiple posts on my turbo kit and its hp[IMG] in stages i have found what i believe to be the limits of this block in its stock form. The early 5vz motors with the non mls gaskets is stable at 250wheel and has head gasket issues around 300-330 wheel hp. The newer style with the MLS head gasket is stable from 350 wheel to 375 wheel. The Fail point is 430-450 wheel. The breaking factor is not the piston but the connecting rod. Now of course this is all depending on your setup and your fuel system[IMG]. My final setting is 350 wheel hp 435 wtq. I get 19 mpg[IMG] on e85 city and 25 freeway. Runs like top.

Those are very good numbers! What is boost/timing at 350whp?

Meth & E85? Impressive. 19psi numbers are shocking! Everything hold up to that torque?

I believe you're missing some other real world factors...

like: 4X drive line load/gear reduction (puts a lot of stress on the mtr.)

someone I knew had their 5VZ's connecting rod disintegrate
while only pushing the factory 190 hp.

was in 4X low... throttled up hard with 100% traction...

    bang ! (nice drain hole !) :p

(was a 168K on the mtr.)

^ owner was meticulous with engine maintenance
Using only oem or premium products.

I will believe that the 5VZ con rods
are definitely the weak link when pushing the 5VZ's hp.
^ aggravated more so... when a heavy load is applied.

Don't think I'd push much beyond 300 hp
without first beefing up the 5VZ's internals.

    * Maybe on a race truck...
that gets rebuilt after each race.
But not a trail rig or dd.
^ unless the 5VZ's consumable life expectancy is of no issue.

I Race it in 4W high and so far everything is holding. I had to have a custom clutch made.

If your boy broke a rod it was due to poor tuning or a flaw in the rod nothing more. If it was a supercharged car it was 100% on the tune.
