Previous owner probably put the switch inline with the clutch safety so he could use it as a free anti-theft device.

Connect the wires back together and it will probably start.

Sounds like a clutch security feature he wired in. I have one under my fuse panel that the PO installed. If it was unplugged, the only way to start the truck would be to use the clutch cancel switch

possibly an over ride for the "clutch cancel" foot pedal/lever switch ?

Does your clutch pedal have a switch mounted behind the clutch lever ?
should make contact when the clutch pedal is depressed to the floor.

^ should be wiring to that if it's functional.

    Was originally... two options

clutch cancel was done at the clutch pedal/lever (switch)
or the clutch cancel button located on the dash.

would not start unless one of those were engaged

Sounds like an ejector seat trigger; be very careful.
