so my truck ( 2001 double cab 3.4) is throwing a p0300 code ? it comes up as multiple misfire. when i step on the gas and really get into it kind of pop some time almost like a back fire . any ideas

 

have u done a tune up on it latelty? if so, did u gap ur plugs right?

only because my mouse rolled over the thread... so then I decided to post that jerky thing I said...

 

yeah i figured id at least get people to look at it. well i just bought the truck about 20 days ago. now its throwing this code. ill have to replace my spark plugs and inspect my spark plug wires make sure there are no cracks. i wasent sure if this was just maybe a commom problem with a simple fix.... that would be to easy also the truck seems kind of bagless untill you hit 3700 rpm. then it really comes into it maybe something to do with the check engine light

 

i would think that more people would chime in, maybe they will later on today. i hope with changing the plugs & wires do the trick though!

 

yeah so its just getting worse i changed the coil for cylinder number 6 and looked at the plug which seemed fine ( ill replace tommorow need to go to the parts store) and its still runs like shit. idles rough and when u drive it. the truck skips all the time and sometimes the check engine light flashes a few times. ill try the new plug and reset the computer and do a compression test on the cylinder....

 

yeah stock twin plugs and it was also throwing a p0303 code i think saying cylinder number 6 was misfiring.

 

Hey man, i had a 95.5 and a 97 3.4 V6 tacoma and both trucks had the same issue. How many miles do you have? I had a hard time narrowing my problem down between hte plugs/ wires and the coils. On my 95 it ended up being a coil which is around $120 so i replaced the wires too while i was at it. Plugs never did solve the problem. One way i diagnosed it was to hook a computer up to the truck while i drove it( buddy had one) and find out which cylinders were misfirring. If the coil is bad that cylinder along with the cylinder that the wire is running to should misfire. I then moved the coil to a different cylinder to see if the problem followed or stayed the same. Since you have a new coil you might be able move it to cylinder 5 and see if hte results are better/ same or worse. If moving the new coil doesn't change anything at all pickup a TPS sensor for like $25. On my 97 i thought i was having the same problems so i went out and blew a bunch of money on coils/ wires becasue the symptoms were almost exactly the same but the problem then was a simple TPS( Throttle Positioning Sensor) and i remember my CEL comming on and going off when it would surge or cut out. I would also clean the MAF sensor and throttle body while your changing parts. Things are just comming to mind here so bare with me... Get a can of seafoam for the truck too becasue that willl help out alot as far as a tune-up goes, I hope this helps

 

We see this a lot on the 3.4's and a lot of the time it's a coil that's gone bad. If you've already replaced the plugs and wires, the coil's the only thing left.

I didn't see where you're located, but if you're in AZ, I have a few good coils for testing purposes, if needed.

Never mind about borrowing the coil, I see you're on the other side of the world from me.

 

thanks for the offer on the coil. but maybe tommorow ill try reseting the computer and switching the coil around . it was a p0306 code actually sorry. and yeah the spark plug wires are all attatched. ill try the switching around the coils tommorow

 

rotor "button" burnt up inside the distributer perhaps?

 

No rotor on the 3.4, they've got coil on plug, with two cylinders firing from one coil.

 

When you pull the coils to check 'em, look real close at the boots, and you'll probably see where there's been spark exiting the boot, and making contact with the metal tube. The rubber will usually be white on the inside where the spark is exiting.
