YotaShop Engine Rebuild Install

Yeah, I have been working on cars/trucks since I was a little one. My stepfather started me off and taught me the basic skills needed: Patience and openmindedness. After that I just started tinkering with stuff. I was replacing universal joints at 12 and went from there. When I got my first car I was just thinking "What can I do to this thing to make it do better" and went from there. I bought books and books and books....you know, those things we used before the internet. I would spend countless hours reading and looking at the car... Eventually I knew every piece and particle. I fell in love with working on things back then. It was a no-brainer when I enlisted what I was going to do. I scored so high on my ASVAB that they were wanting to send me to intel school! You should have seen the look on the recruiters face when I told him I was either going to be a tank mechanic, or I was not going to sign!

 

Hows the engine holding up?

 

Hey Doc….. I have put little over 5,000 mils on the engine. Shortly after I installed the engine I drove to Texas. I drove in overdrive. My highway speed between 65 to 85. My RPM between 2000 and 2900. Average 17.6 MPG… With a loaded truck..

I was going to pull a compression test when I got back home… But the engine is running as good as the day I drove it off the show-room floor back in 1996. One day I may still pull a compression test. It would be good to know..

All I can say….with my experience with YotaShop’ s craftsmanship …… if YotaShop rebuilds aToyota engine you need……..
It would serve you very well to look no further….

If you don't mind me asking how much did that rebuilt engine set you back? I was considering a reman for my 04 taco 4x4 that i bought with a bad engine but i found a complete 3.4 from a rolled over 2003 prerunner with only 69k miles on ebay from a salvage yard in Arizona for $1400 including the shipping. I got it together and just tagged it about a month ago and it's funny because i'm also planning it's 1st roadtrip to Texas.

 

The cost was $3000 + $300 core charge. I kept the core because it was going to cost me another $200 to ship it back.

It sounds like you have a very good deal. Toyota builds a strong solid engine and with good maintenance, 69 thousand miles is nothing… for that engine…

I chose not to go that route. I’m allergic to using certain salvage parts and engines was one.

Note…. just in case:
Removing the engine on my 96, I had to secure the starter to the block after removing the starter bolts. also I secured the started to the block when installing the motor. I used bailing wire. This may not be necessary on your 04??

Thanks Roy $3000 that's a good price for a remanned long block. So far my used engine has been performing very good. I couldn't believe how new the engine from Az looked compared to mine, you west coast guys don't know how good you got it.

 

No.. I used Rust-Oleum truck bed coating. I had a lot of rock chips in that area. I did not want to paint the hood so I used the black truck bed coating to cover those chips in the paint. I carried the paint around the head lamps because it looked better…….Turned out nice.

You can still see where the chipped area are, but it still looks good…

Down side.. the finish is rough so have to be careful with polish.

Before I found YotaShop I was looking at 5 thousand plus shipping from other rebuilders. It was going to cost me around 4 thousand for a machine shop to rebore my block and resurface the heads with all parts necessary to build and assemble it myself.

I was very skeptical when I found a long block for 3 thousand completely assembled. I could not find any consumer or customer reviews on YouaShop. Thats why I posted my results here.
I am very satisfied with their performance…and the results….

I convinced myself to use YotaShop because I did not trust myself to use the TTY head bolt torque procedure…
Sounds crazy hu….. But dat da truth. I sure as hell glad I took the leap because that was the slickest install I ever did.

Hi, Roy. I just ordered a 5vz from Yotashop. I was wondering how your engine is doing and if you have any install tips. I hope that engine is doing great and you have plenty of trouble-free miles ahead of you. I'm new to this site and am very appreciative to all for the info i've been able to get from all the posts.

 

Good stuff, I'm getting the same mpg with nothing but me. I think it's time for a good tune up

I'm looking at a 3rz from them now and their core charge for the 4cylinder is 600$!!! That's double the price for your 6cyl for half the engine what gives?

 

For some reason the 4 cylinders are priced higher than the 6 cylinders. Probably because more trucks came with the 5VZ.
