I don't know if any of you read my last thread, about how i went n checked out a Tacoma DC a while back which looked like a steal, until i went n looked at it and saw that it was a rust bucket.

Anyways i had gone and checked out countless other 1st gen Tacomas the past few months with no luck. I was determined to not spend my money on a used truck that hasn't been cared for. Ever since i started looking i loved the look of the black DC's, they were just so rare around here.

Well, after a 5 hour trip (by bus/ferry) to go and look at this one i was astounded at how clean it was. Never been a work truck, never been off road, never abused. It seemed like the only problem i could find was a few spots of rust on the back bumper. Pretty much bone stock aside from the Truxedo tonneau cover and after market stereo. What really sold it for me was the fact the seller seemed like a really good honest guy, he had all the maintenance records and took really good care of her.

So after quite a bit of haggling i finally got it down to a price i could live with, made the hand shake and drove this black beauty home!

Can't wait to get to work on this thing, hopefully i'll have some money saved in the near future and you all can help me empty my wallet. :D

Hey at least you got a rear locker, which i wish i had.

Damn straight, first things first...a seat cover for the back seat. The dog gets hair EVERYWHERE.

Thanks Gman, I've seen your truck before i think, very good lookin rig.

Thanks everyone, i've learned a lot from this site so far i'll be lookin forward to all your input and advice.

One thing is i do wish this truck had the TRD off road package. With that said is there anyone here who has 4WD without the TRD who do some moderate off roading? I'd like to know if they feel held back without the locker and the upgraded suspension.

Thanks. Don't give up, you'll find the right one. Most important thing is be patient and don't settle for a POS. Tacomas can tolerate getting driven hard and beaten up, they're tough trucks, but you wanna be the one doing the beating. :D

Thanks. There's a lil over 100,000 miles on it.

I couldn't help but notice your DC was a manual, how hard was it to swap transmissions? Costly? The one thing that picks me about 1st gen DC's is they weren't available in a standard. :(

Sorry I forgot to change the transmission from last one. My truck is an automatic unfortunately but one day I plan to convert it to a manual. Wow your truck has low miles

Yeah man I feel you on the lack of the TRD package.. Mine doesn't have the locker but I do fine on light/moderate trails.. There's not many places to wheel around here so it doesn't really affect me much. But if you got into some more serious wheeling especially anything where you'll have wheel off the ground, you're definitely gonna miss the locker..

Ahh i see. I plan to as well.

The low mileage was definitely a big factor in making up my mind. Hoping to have this truck for a long time.

Yeah that's really all i wanted to know, i'm not gonna be doing any serious wheeling any time soon but as long as i can hold my own on a moderate off road trail then i'll be satisfied. (yes yes i know, it's the driver that makes the difference, not the truck), lol.
