Through a series of events (truck running like crap), I started investigating and found out that my timing belt is getting eating by the front cover.

I thought at first it was just the upper idler going (you could actually see it was off), so I got a new belt, upper and lower idlers and tensioner and set out to replace it all today. After pulling the idlers off and upon further inspection, it looks like the upper idler mount is bent and somehow the threads on the bolt are jacked (?!!!?!!!?)

I can't seem to get the cam pulleys off to take the back cover plate off to inspect the mount and I can't seem to find a diagram to figure out how that upper idler is mounted to the block.

Does anyone who's had the 5vzfe apart further than this know what that upper idler is mounted to? Anyone have a diagram? I've got the FSM but can't seem to find a decent diagram or know what the hell to do.

    Thanks!!

Got the cam pulleys and the rear dust shield off.

Turns out the upper idler mount is part of 1 of the 4 intake manifold parts and cast into the manifold.

Is there any way this can bend and not have other stuff fail with it? The old upper idler bearing spins perfectly, has no play in it and no leaks that I can tell. It looks and functions as it should.

Should I try to bend the mount? Or just leave it and do this whole thing again in 30K?

Is there just a piece that unbolts from the block? 90% sure I have one
edit: I have a lot of spare parts, i'll check when i get home but I'm very sure i have the part.

Man, if I could get a straight one, I would be set. But it seems to be part of the manifold. I hauled on it a little with a pry bar to see if it would come loose after loosening the only bolt and it didn't budge.

Also, here's the upper idler mounting bolt. Notice how messed up the threads are. I had to clean up the mounting bolt threads with a tap, too. I did the belt myself at 120K and the only other mechanic who's been in there is a guy at Camelback Toyota. What the heck is going on?

It looks like you're right, Tacomataco2. Found a diagram from the dealer. Looks like it's part #: 13584-62050. Now I gotta figure out how to get it outta there.

Gotcha. Well...it is what it is. The longer I sit here, the more I'm coming to terms with it.

It looks like you do have to remove the upper and lower plenums in addition to the part that the injectors and fuel rail are mounted to.

If you could check if you've got a straight mounting bolt and mount in your shop, I'd take them off your hands. Thanks!

Also, is there anything else I should do while I'm in there? Replace valve cover gaskets? Service fuel injectors? I've searched a little, but has anyone taken the time to check valves on the 5VZFE? Is it worth the trouble?

Finally getting around to posting here. While replacing the upper idler timing belt mount (no 2. idler mount), a member at TTORA recommended I replace valve cover gaskets, knock sensor wiring harness and have enough FIPG on hand to re-seal the coolant bypass pipe. When I pulled the intake manifold, here's what I found:

About 20 ounces of standing coolant and the pigtail on the knock sensor crumbled when I touched it.

I wanted to post in case somebody does a search in the future. Glad this is done, too.

Yeah, I have always told customers if I am already that far down, replace both of the knock sensors and the harness to be safe, and reseal that coolant pipe since you have to remove it anyway to remove the piece you are replacing. Looks like you are on the right track!

Lifted (not sure of height), Falken RockyMountain 285/75/16 tires, unsure of wheel details, auto leveling kit, moded to HID H4 headlights from previous owner. Recently Upgraded to LED headlights.
Would you happen to have any more of these? It's for the upper pulley idler on my 2001 Tacoma 3.4L v6 5VZ-FE ...
or if not, would you at very least have the part # for the bolt?
I hoping for some kind of luck lately.

Being this is a old thread might not get much attention

Should be easy to find I am told ACE hardware in your part of the country sells JIS bolts take your pieces and match it up

    Either a M8x1.25 or M10x 1.25.

My having them in my Bolt bin across the country does not help

According to these guys it's Toyota PN 90105-10191

    EDIT:

It looks like that bolt has a superseded part number. It's 90080-10289. Any time a part number is superseded, it's my hope they improved the part and this won't happen again. Good luck!
