I'm meeting a guy at Wal Mart tomorrow about a Husky toolbox. The guy only wants $50 for it on Craigslist, so I called him to ask what the catch was. He said that the locks don't work, it's missing one of the shocks that keep it held up when it's opened, and it was originally bare aluminum, but he rattle canned it black. I'm thinking, if this is all that's wrong, I can buy new locks and a new shock and it'll be in perfect working order. I've got a buddy that does professional hydrographics and powder coating, so I'll have to get some aircraft grade paint stripper to get the spray paint off and he'll powder coat it for me for next to nothing. After buying it and all the replacement parts, I'm looking at about $145 to get it back "brand new."

What do ya think? Is it a good restoration project or a waste of time?

Side note: My buddy does badass hydrographics and I really wanna get it dipped in Realtree Camo, but I've busted my ass making everything on my truck black, besides the paint job, so to keep from getting everything camo'd out, I'm gonna keep it all black........for now. Not trying to advertise for him, but check out the badassness of his work @

I love Realtree too. Here in GA, Realtree vs. Mossy Oak is like Ford vs. Chevy lol (someone should start that thread). I wish I could get it realtree dipped, but I'd have to get the satoshi, emblems, wheels, etc. dipped too, so I'll probably hold off, for now. But I'm probably gonna jump all over it and make a write-up on it.

FYI you can get a brand new Kobalt at lowes for $150.00. Husky boxes are pretty high priced in my opinion. I got a black better built from wally world for $200.00. Great box.

I just called Lowe's and they've got one in stock, so I'm gonna go check it out this afternoon. Do you have one? Any problems with it?

Nvm, just re-read that and saw you have a betterbuilt

Lowes sells better built accessories so im guess that the Kobalts are nade by them with lowes name on them. I like it, decent quality for price.

So, after meeting the dummy from Craigslist, I ended up going with the Lowe's Kobalt toolbox and I like it so far. The Craigslist guy failed to mention that there was a bullet hole in the top of the box...anyway, I've had my Kobalt on for over a month now and I like it. The lock feels kind of cheap, but it works and that's all that matters. The black powder coating looks great, too. So far, no complaints.
